Mud Hens beat Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Mike Hessman's two-run homer in the top of the first inning was all the Mud Hens needed last night to defeat the Syracuse Chiefs 2-1 in Syracuse.

Hessman's left-field launch brought home Scott Sizemore after he singled on a previous play.

The Chiefs put three men on bases in the bottom of the second, but couldn't score a run thanks in part to a double play from shortstop Brent Dlugach, second baseman Sizemore and first baseman Jeff Larish.

Both teams went scoreless until the bottom of the eighth, when Chief Norris Hopper's RBI single brought home Jhonatan Solano, who doubled on the previous play.

But the last ditch effort was not enough as the Hens closed out the defensive struggle with a win.

Toledo has won 9 of their last 11 going into their final of a four-game set against Syracuse.
