Briggs Stadium, 1950s
One of many fine photos at Tiger Stadium Photos - Baseball Fever
Notice the dirt path from the plate to the mound. Anybody know when that was eliminated, originally?

Not sure about your question, but the first thing I noticed on that photo was how the Briggs Stadium sign was faced towards the stadium, so people inside would read left to right.
Wasn't the Tiger Stadium Neon sign faced outwards, so people coming down Michigan Ave. would be able to read it left to right???

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it was on both sides so you could read it both ways.

And the warning track ends at the bull pen. Interesting!

Thats just the way the turf was laid out. Briggs Stadium in the RF corner had an area of seats that used to stick out from the foul line that was taken out when Kaline crashed into it a couple of times and got banged up chasing fly balls. The area was rounded off around the 1955-56 season.
The warning track was installed in the outfield before the start of the 1946 season.

I seem to remember someone that Briggs Stadium was the last stadium to keep the path between the mound and plate (called the "keyhole").

Great picture, but it's also reversed. You can tell by looking not only at the Briggs Stadium letters but also at the scoreboards, as well as the fact that by looking down what looks like the first base line, there's no runners box. So it's actually the third base line in a reversed photo.
Also, why are the pitcher and the base coaches blurred? Is this a time-lapsed photo as well?
