Default Paul Carey: Baseball's best number two voice

I came across this the other day and thought I'd post it. I wonder what Paul is up to these days.

Paul Carey had a voice destined for announcing, and truly miss hearing it to this day.

At my first radio job at WKJC up in Tawas City, we ran Tigers baseball. Paul Carey's post game feeds were the stuff of legend - & so we edited a tape together of his best bloopers & sent it to him.

He took the time to write me a letter back, thanking me for the laughs. I still have it. Paul Carey =

He was on WXYT a week ago, talking with Pat Caputo. He was awesome, of course. I got to know him a little bit in the early 90's when he frequented my place of business. He's very nice.

Not only was he great with the Tigers, but during the offseason his hosting of the 11:15pm sports report on WJR in the late '70s and early '80s was an invaluable resource in the days before ESPN and the Internet. 15 minutes devoted to sports news was practically unheard of those days.

With all the returning faces and voices last October for the playoffs but no sightings (unless I missed it) of Ray Lane and Paul Carey, I was afraid that one or both had passed away. Glad to see that Carey's alive and kicking.

A fine gentleman who was best (I Think) broadcasting Pistons Basketball. I remember when he first started broadcasting Tiger games and had a bit of trouble on long fly balls thinking they were gone, but were just long outs. He even apologized on the air for that a few times. This is not meant as a knock on him as I always enjoyed his work and how prepared he always seemed to be. In my humble opinion, the best Tiger announcing team in my lifetime was the short lived team of Harwell and Kell in the early 60s.

Oh man! What a great voice. While recuperating from spinal meningitis in 1984, I used to listen to Paul and Ernie while the team got off to it's 35-5 start. It certainly helped in my recovery!
