10-28-12--DETROIT VS SAN FRANCISCO 8:00 PM (Game #4--2012 World Series)

The Raft of the Medusa by the French Romantic painter and lithographer Théodore Géricault (1791–1824).
It is an over-life-size painting that depicts a moment from the aftermath of the wreck of the French naval
frigate Méduse, which ran aground off the coast of today's Mauritania on July 5, 1816. At least 147 people
were set adrift on a hurriedly constructed raft; all but 15 died in the 13 days before their rescue, and those
who survived endured starvation, dehydration, cannibalism and madness.

If the Tigers get swept, they would be the first AL team to get swept in the World Series since the 1990 Athletics, when the Reds swept them. Let's hope not, I want to see at least another Verday.

Win this game, have a rejuvenated Verlander for Game 5, this thing will go 6-7.

I stuck around when we were down three runs to Cleveland with two outs in the bottom of the 10th on August 5th. You know how that ended. So I'll still be watching this game.

clinging bitterly to hope.... win this game then you get Verlander and hopeful it's 3-2. Once you are down 3-0 then all the pressure moves to SF.

Why do I feel like we will still win this series?
Has anyone ever come back from 3-0 in the World Series?
-

No.
-
10-28-2012, 08:32 AM #11
The sad part is...this shouldn't shock anyone. This is the same anemic offense that we watched most of the summer. I keep seeing references to Verlander and Fister as if we can just get by tonight it can still happen. Its not the damn pitching, its the fact there is zero offense. Fister and Sanchez could have both thrown nine inning no-hitters the past two nights and all you'd have gotten was extra innings. I hate this team looks so bad in the spot light. Maybe it will force some hands after the season...I doubt it.

Win tonight and I think they win the series.

Does he put Berry out there again? And bat him second? Something tells me he will.

If the boys lose today, they will have been playing with the chance of winning a championship for 43 days longer than the Twins. I have been extremely disappointed during this world series, but it could be ,such worse. Either way, I am happy to be watching my team play, albeit horribly, on the very last day of the postseason.
I just met you, and this is crazy,
I want JBK to see this, could you quote me maybe?

Is Matt Cain pitching tonight?
Avisail Garcia will not(should not) start against Cain.

You guys seriously still think the Tigers are going to win this? Or are you just trying not to be negative?
The Tigers haven't scored a run in the last 18 innings. They've been shut out 2 games in a row, they were only shut out twice during the regular season.
The Tigers haven't hit an extra base hit in the last 16 innings. They can't string enough singles and walks together to get a damn run.
The Tigers have yet to lead a game in this series. Did they catch something from the Yankees?
The Tigers may win tonight but they do not have the magic to be the first team ever to over come a 0-3 deficit in the World Series.
It's over, book it!

I'll be watching tonight because it is potentially the last Tigers game for 6 months. I have no hope of winning tonight. This offense is awful and got shutout by a very mediocre performance last night.

The Tigers finished strong and won their division.
The Tigers won the ALDS against a team with a better record.
The Tigers swept the ALCS against a team with a better record.
The Tigers made the WS for the third time in my life.
Whether it leads to a series victory or not, I refuse to be shamed, embarrassed or otherwise dissuaded from rooting for my team to win a game in the WS.
I will watch this entire WS and root for the Tigers, book it!Introibo ad altare Dei

On the bright side, this is postseason experience for guys that had little to none. Garcia will hopefully start next season in the minors and work on seeing pitches better.

Perfect game early in 2012. 2012 All Star Game winning pitcher. NLDS Game 5 winning pitcher. NLCS Game 7 winning pitcher. Cain has created enough memories for himself already.

QB should be batting 9th. He is horrible at putting the ball in play. Infante should bat 2nd, even against RH pitching. He's much more reliable at making contact and getting on, and can even hit one out of the park. I just shudder when Smokes puts Berry in the 2-hole. Dirks in that slot makes more sense as well.

If the Tigers get hot they can beat anybody in four straight games. I wouldnt bet a lot of money on it but you never know. There has to be a first time so I'm going to watch tonight's game with a lot of hope that they can still come back and win the World Series. And if they do I can say I rooted for them all along. If they don't then I'll say I was wrong and start rooting all over again next year.

No matter what happens tonight, the starting staff has been amazing this season. Outstanding job especially considering the defence they had behind them. I'm sure that led to a lot of extra pitches. The defence has been good in the playoffs but the bats have gone cold and that seems to be the trend this year. At different points the offence, the defence or the relievers have disappointed all season long. They can't seem to get everybody clicking at the same time.

Does this year's offense, not only looking at the postseason, have any effect on Sanchez resigning or getting other pitchers to sign here? I don't think it does, but does a guy like Anibel sit back after last night's game and wonder if he wants to pitch for a team that can't score?

I can't imagine that will enter into Anibal's thought process.
As for the team as a whole. I haven't given up. NObody has ever come back from 3-0, but its not like nobody has ever won 4 games in a row before. We have the pitching staff to do it and the offense is bound to score at least a few runs.

Sanchez will go to the team that gives him the most money. We are not going to get a hometown discount. He is trending to a 15 million a year salary at 4 years with the possiblity of getting a 5th. Buehrle garnered a 4 year 56 million last season at age 31.
At this point I'm more concerened with adding a 1 year bat like Hunter to hit second and fixing the bullpen.

Could this season possibly spell the end of McLendon? I've never seen a team so often completely unprepared to face certain pitchers. It's been ridiculous this year.
I could just be Verlander's fault too.Facebook

Win tonight and the odds will still be heavily against them, but they will still be playing and will still have a chance at the greatest comeback in World Series history.

The Tigers will probably lose tonight, and will almost certainly lose the series. It would be wonderful if they did win, but chances are very slim. Still, they've had a successful season, and gone higher than they did last year. I'm happy for that.
Thanks, Tigers.Bruce
