At first I thought the guy with the long hair in front had a white horn growing out of his head, but then I realized it was the arm of one of the guys further back.

Looks like I need more caffeine.

I didn't know the Motor City Striders went back that far. I'll be sweltering at this one. I hope the Tigers don't help Sanchez get well.

I look at this game as a win-win in most cases.

    A) Nice start for Smyly. Tigers Win, huZZah!

    B) Smyly continues to regress, and gets smoked. Tigers lose...but then call up Turner. Turner did a nice job in his spot start, and he is a big piece of the team's future, so he has to be up here to start cutting his teeth...that might as well be now if Smyly can't get it done.

Smyly did well his last start, giving up just 3 hits and a walk in 5 innings, to go with 4 k's. The three earned runs were a bit unlucky. His ability to strike people out make me think he'd do better in the 2nd half than Turner would if he were up.

It looked like Cabrera was limping around a bit after a play a couple of games ago. That might be why he is DHing. I don't mind at all that he's DHing...except that it means Young is in the field.

"They can use both (old- and new-school statistics)," Cabrera said. "In 2012, we've got to take advantage of all that.

I LOVE that Miggy is DH'ing. Best player on the team playing EVERY single day in this stiffling heat, give him a 'day off' staying cool in the dugout. Plus just knowing his personality I can see him in the clubhouse before the game joking about how much better he will hit not having to worry about defending!

Detroit Tigers' Delmon Young the AL's 'least valuable' player, ESPN's Jayson Stark says | MLive.com

    Sounds about right.

"Young is careening along with as many double-play balls (seven) as homers, a .296 OBP, a 58-9 strikeouts-walks ratio and a .236 batting average (with two home runs in 25 games) against teams from his division. 'He couldn't do less,' muttered one scout, 'if he were in a coma.'"

I realized I play a lot like Delmon in my work co-ed softball league. I swing at the first pitch regardless of location, I poorly play the field, and generally goof off in the dugout.

Got a not so good feeling about this series. Last time we played them, they weren't hitting. This time...good luck, Smyly.

listening to the pre-game with Leyland and Dan Dickerson talking about the Royals' starter Sanchez and his wildness - nice to hear Leyland say he's starting Berry over Boesch with the reasoning that (paraphrasing) "Boesch tends to swing at bad pitches and strike out, Berry's better at taking a pitch and could draw a few walks".

Don't like Delmon in the field - Raburn's made a few nice plays to make up for a lack of production and Cabrera will get a bit of a breather over the break - but at this moment it's really a push for who I'd rather have between Delmon and Boesch.

Royals played a night game last night, I sure hope they're tired.

Delmon in the field is a sorry joke. Raburn isn't much better in LF. Berry is probably our best LF defender. I don't see why people scream about Boesch in RF, he's not that bad. Not great, but decent.

Raburn is a much better defender than Young in LF.

Boesch is atrocious in the field this year going by fangraphs. On pace to do worse than Delmon Young ever did in the outfield. Fielding stats are a little wonky, but Boesch doesn't accel at much of anything in the field.

Berry with a single stolen from him, if that were Peralta at short it would have been a single all day. Nice defensive play though.

Cabby with a single. That guy just finds a way to get on base.

On second look the royals had a shift on for Cabby, that should have been an out all day, but the 2B was up the middle.
