If our middle infielders could play consistent plus defense (Peralta, despite his general lack of range, was a plus fielder last year, and Santiago, despite his general suckitude this year so far, used to be a good 2bman), and one of Boesch/Raburn/DY could get hot, I think we've got the components for a really good second half in place now, esp. with Avila coming back....sure hope he brings the bat.

A sweep would have been nice, but I would take a series win. We have not had a series sweep since 5/25. I wonder if that is average for the league? Only sweeping one series a month?
To stay on that course they would have to sweep the Pirates this week after this game."Yeah You're right man...that is enough."
-
I would say one a month might even be above average? It's hard to sweep a series. I really have no idea, but 6 sweeps a year sounds like a lot.

The only thing I could find with a quick search was some dude on another forum saying there were 30 series sweeps in the MLB last year, but that would mean only 1 per team on average which is about impossible. I also found something saying the most series sweeps in a season was 3 by the Yankees. That is also not right...or cannot be right.
We have already swept 3 this year and we are under .500"Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

By my quick count, the Tigers swept 11 series last year. Though a few were two game series.

Glad I worked from home today so I can catch this on television. Hopefully the kid does a little bit better this time around and gets his first major leaugue win today!

According to this, there have been 71 sweeps in the MLB this year of at least 3 games, for an average of a little over 2 per team.

They have the Tigers with 3 sweeps and having been swept twice. I don't really count 2-game sweeps, even though they are technically a sweep.
That would be about right around one per month on average.Facebook

The Rockies have been swept 5 times and have 0 to their credit. Ouch. The A's Phillies, and Giants also have zero.

Well we are right on pace then. 3 sweeps around 3 months in. We would actually be ahead of schedule then if we swept Pittsburgh.
Obviously we are below average on actually winning series since we are under .500, but it is nice to know we are at least average in the sweep category."Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

Nice 1st by Turner, giving up a single but striking out 2.
I'm getting a good feeling about this team. When Dirks gets back I'll have an even better feeling.

Nice start for Turner, got a few swings and misses, a couple K's and up to 94 on the gun.

Nasty 2 seamer there, that was Fisteresque with the way it darted in on the righty, except with a little more velo.

I don't WANNA tip my cap!I'm a little verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic. Range Factor is neither about a fielder's range, nor should it be much of a factor when discussing fielding prowess. Discuss.

Turner looks a lot better than I thought he would even, but then as I type this he gives up a solid single and I haven't seen him break 91 mph this inning...

Turner is doing well, but I have yet to see him throw anything besides a fastball for a strike. Another time through the lineup and I feel like they're going to start mashing.
