MLB umps are rally bad. How someone can have a job in the highest possible position and be so bad at it, yet last for literally decades without any obvious consequences is a black mark on baseball.

Delmon has to have the most predictable bats in the bigs. It's a Brandon Inge level automatic strikeout with that pitch. And now you have a bunch of easy outs in the 8th. Well, hopefully they can get Cabrera and Fielder up with some men on in the 9th.

I was just going to make this same comparison. It is so much like Brandon Inge with 2 strikes. You throw the breaking ball away and you got a strikeout. I am surprised he wasted a pitch on a high fastball right before that.

As bad as Boesch is, at least he is not guaranteed to swing at the down and away breaking ball with two strikes. I think I might even prefer him up there over Delmon.

Delmon is a classic example of a guy with a natural gift but just doesn't have the smarts to do something with it.

Somehow is average is still hovering around .250, which I guess is partly a testament to his natural hitting ability. Most hitters would be below .200 with the approach Delmon takes.

I'm done watching the game but if this is true, credit Leyland for thinking outside the box for once and going against the grain. Personally, I think Porcello should be moved to the bullpen full time until he gets his act together. We can call up some other scrub with less potential to get bombed as a starter.
