I am about as positive as they come and I have been pretty disgusted by the teams play as a whole so far this year...that does not make me a bandwagon fan or negative...it is a fact. They have been bad SO FAR. There is plenty of time to get better. When the team starts hitting they will look like world beaters...even if the pitching continues to struggle.
I hate the 'minor league' -v- 'major league' poster thread idea. Sounds elitist...because it is. The 'ignore' feature is there for this exact reason. If you do not have the time to ignore those 'new posters' then I do not know what to say. You will get out of this site what you put into it. Just my thoughts."Yeah You're right man...that is enough."

Closer to last place than first place as of June 4. This nearly 2 month streak of poor play has to end at some point, doesn't it?

What's up with all the posters getting banned? There has got to be some sort of correlation between Tigers play on the field/ # of bannings

I personally think the sort of persistently negative posting that some do here is far more accepted on this site than it would be face to face. JMO.

Bring back Trok, bring back Sportz! And not that "Always throws heat" version of Sportz, but like, the real one that calls people stupid and can't spell to save his life.
But keep Cecil banned, he sucked."I've consolidated Kelly, Laird and Worth into one entity-- Kellairdorth. It's easier to pretend there's only one of them" CatsWithBats

When the tigers stunk up the joiGnt this was seriously one of the best places to read about baseball in existence. Ever since the tigers made the playoffs it's been downhill. When they got prince this year it became way worse overnight. I still enjoy reading a lot of the posters but there's a lot of trolls.go reds

I can absolutely, positively, 100% confirm that alwaysthrowheat is not Sportz.
I have met both.

If anyone thinks you are secretly Sportz4Life or Cookies30 that is a warning sign that you may be a bad poster- for very different reasons, however.

No, actually it doesn't. We'll have half of the Toledo line-up going for a while. Until we get Fister, Jackson, Benoit and Dirks back. As well as Laird and Avila. Santos has been hard to watch, even with his game winning sac fly.
Injuries can sure derail a season. It's happened to many teams, many times. Most teams can't afford depth now and rely on their farm system to supply replacements. While Berry has done a good job, our 6th and 7th SP haven't. And yet our biggest problem, still, is 2nd base. Going on 3 years now.
As for being negative? I can see people being so disappointed they lash out. It's human instinct. But there are trolls who's only goal is to start flame wars. Just put them on ignore until they get banned.

I did and it bummed me out. He was negative but knowledgable. Most of his arguments had a grain of truth. I thought he brought some balance. Not the game thread type post but the others. Game threads are by definition reactionary. I dont fault anyone for ragging these guys on the GDT.

I'm starting to wonder if people just like messing with you about that.
Well, Grey at Walkoff Woodward made some salient points here. (If you follow him on Twitter, you know he's not prone to bouts of optimism.)
As for me, I'm mostly optimistic because there are 100+ games left (yes, I'm one of those people). I also don't think the Tigers are as terrible as they seem right now. I do think they'll have to make some moves, such as getting rid of some of the dead weight (Like DFAing/releasing/etc. Delmon? Sending Boesch to the minors for a little bit? /shrug) and maybe making a trade or two to upgrade the pitching staff or the middle infield, but I truly think they're a better team than they've shown to this point.
I don't think the Tigers were as good as we wanted to believe when they signed Prince, either. I seem to recall someone on this board (I am possibly mistaken and it might have been a different board) said they should easily be a 108 win team; I didn't even think they were a 100+ win team. I thought somewhere between an 88-92 win team was realistic, and could easily take the division. I also thought Cleveland and Chicago would be improved; as of now, I'm not too sure about Cleveland, but Chicago seems to be doing well and getting contributions from unexpected sources, such as Adam Dunn, Alex Rios, and Jake Peavy, to name a few. Can the Sox keep it up? Will they fade? Maybe the luck will start turning in the Tigers' favor. Maybe not. Who knows?
Semi-relatedly, I really don't think they should have a fire sale and punt the rest of the season like I've seen suggested on Twitter. I saw someone the other day say the Tigers need to unload Prince on the Dodgers for whatever they can get, which didn't make much sense to me because I can't imagine they'd get close to equal value in return. I also saw someone suggest the Tigers should trade Cabrera too, to restock the minors. I think Verlander was the only one no one on Twitter suggested we trade.
Also, has anyone given a thought to signing Jeff Francis? He is apparently primed to opt out of his minor league deal with the Reds. Saw this suggested on Twitter and was not immediately repulsed by the prospect; he's also doing well in AAA for Cincinnati. Could send Crosby back to Toledo and insert Francis in the fifth spot in the rotation until Fister's ready to return.
Apologies.

I agree with you here. People got real excited and probably unrealistic, which is adding to the depression around here. I think it is the way they are losing, not the losing, that is bothering me. They are failing in every aspect of the game. Can't throw strikes. Can't hit. Can't even lay down a sacrifice bunt when needed. Makes me wanna scream. That being said, hopefully this series sparks the team.
