There's a difference between being negative and just straight up acting like a fool, though, and that becomes very tiresome even if it is expected. It can make the whole board look bad. A line has to be drawn somewhere... at some point these posters need to realize that they're just making themselves look foolish.
I'm not saying they don't have a right to be foolish, but at some point if people don't say something then it'll just keep getting worse and worse until this place turns into MLive. This place does a good job of keeping people from getting too carried away.Last edited by Yoda; 05-14-2012 at 07:59 AM.

I don't agree with your statement -- I don't know if there's a "right" kind of fanatic, but I absolutely do think that there are "wrong" kinds of fanatics -- people who seem to expect nothing but the best and rip their team bitterly, as well as those who try to support the team.
Agree or disagree, either way you are contradicting yourself. If there is "no right kind or wrong kind of fanatic", and that is obviously meant to include those who complain/criticize and/or are negative about *players*, then you should accept those types of fans who complain/criticize and/or are negative about *other posters*.
Again, I don't agree with your standard...I think posters should try to be civil and intelligent. At the same time, those who dish it out should be able to take it back at them. I try to reserve snarkyness for those posters/situations where I think it's called for. Today's thread was so out-of-bounds with negativity that I thought it warranted some light-hearted mockery (I think it's obvious that I didn't mean anything personal, I was just trying to make a point).Introibo ad altare Dei

Re-reading the game thread. I think it's easy to say that criticism of players' specific streaks or AB's can be misconstrued as negativity. If anything I'll be the first to point out that certain threads do not have a valid place due to their negative nature. I'm not a fan of the "I hate...." threads, for example. However, pointing out that Fielder is in a 0-23 slump is very anecdotal in nature; it's making a comment of it and saying he has to get it going for this team to be successful.
What's tiresome and becoming ever so apparent, is the petri dish like viewing of the gamethread posters by lurkers that read the game threads and cast judgement upon the opinions of those contributing. The game threads are a valuable part of these forums imo. They are highly reactionary, which is the point of a 162 season having different opinions throughout the threads. Compare a game thread that the Tiger's are winning 8-0 with one that they are losing and it's night and day. People end up chatting about their 'beer of choice' on a summer day, versus their frustrations with specific players.
That being said, I think it's fair to say that posting in game threads is more trouble than it's worth anymore.Last edited by CapitalTigers; 05-14-2012 at 08:20 AM.

I can understand those who feel some are unrelenting on the negative side and that would diminish another's enjoyment. But I can't see a solution other than using the bozo bin. I've always perceived the forum as a venting zone which isn't incompatible with those who really have something to say. To those I hope you do continue as I enjoy the more in depth level headed analysis.

When team is playing like crap, even the level headed analysis will be largely negative. TBH my own take would be the ridiculous victory gifs detract more from the readability of the game threads than 'negativity' but to each his own -- I don't get exercised about it.
Bottom line - If a person thinks the proportion of low value posts is too high, the best way to turn that around is for that person to make higher value posts themselves. True.... Unbiased analysis is likely to be negative during these poor times.... And so will the tendency toward bitching and moaning posts.

Actually I am glad that the MLive mentality stays in the game threads which are a bastion for kneejerk stupidity. That's not to say that everyone in the game threads posts terrible things but it is where bad posts go to die.
I'd rather have it in the game threads than the recent surge of MLive style threads that popped up recently.

I guess someone won't be a fan of the "I LOATH Biff Mayhem thread" that will pop up in a few days after he posts 5 more Clown pictures...

Not much has changed in eight years. Every thread ends up being about Inge and we still dislike Biff.
