Yes, it was retractable. Just because nobody built one before the Skydome doesn't mean the technology didn't exist. Besides, something being floated around in the late 70's wouldn't have been built for at least another 10 years.

I absolutely agree. Detroit is pretty much the perfect climate for baseball. It's a little cold at times, a little hot at times, but what do they have on average, 3 rainouts a year? Minor inconvenience.
