I think Raburn was 5 for his last 10 coming into this game. With a LHP going I thought he was primed for today. Guess not.

that list of pitchers they just put up wasn't too encouraging.

OK - so watching Laird again. The deal is he always comes up quick with the ball and is ready to toss...usually well before the pitcher is ready - so he ends up waiting for him. That's all that is going on.

Ok, next time I'll make a better comparison. Sorry about that.
My point is that it takes time to know whether talent is going to turn into results.
In contrast, you have two pitchers in Porcello and Scherzer who were being counted on to take the next step this year. Both have failed miserably at that so far. I suppose under my Smyly logic, I should allow them some time, but their cases are not the same as Drew- both are established major league pitchers who are expected to take the next step now. Those are two key guys for this team- I dont' think we spent what we spent on Fielder to watch this go on for long.

The Tigers do not have any other options in the organization that are better than Scherzer & Porcello. Even if they continue to struggle, you're stuck with them until at least June or July. With that said, I think both of them will be fine. The lack of production from 2B, LF, & DH have been bigger problems.

Must be something wrong with our player development system, that we bring up so many pitchers who can't throw strikes reliably. The main exception: Smyly.

Laird needs to block the plate better

Laird did a terrible job of blocking the plate.

He would have been called safe regardless.

I think it's the drafting/players targeted in trades. DD loves hard-throwing pitchers who have no control - Schlereth, German, Oliver, Perry, Miller, etc. Smyly wasn't a typical Tiger draft pick - in that he doesn't throw that hard but has good control of all of his pitches.

This is true but I don't mind this strategy for starters because the guys who throw hard are generally the ones at the top end of the rotations.
DD has made a lot of inexcusable mistakes though drafting relievers. He should probably stop drafting relievers altogether and just go and sign them from other teams.

David Chadd also landed Smyly and Dirks in recent draft and they're on the big boys team, so our drafting isnt all bad.

How is this Yankee team barely above .500?
I mean with this umpiring crew doing their bidding and all.

Time to spank the Royals. Hope we can get healthy against them.

There's still hope. Let's trade Valverde to the Yankees before this inning is over and hope they use him in the 9th.

I'll never understand letting Granderson go for salary dump and spend 200 bills on Fielder. Odd

Also, Eldred will be back in minors where he belongs when Young returns. Not worth.

Eldred. Hope the kid can get comfortable and contribute. MLB pitching is just a tad different than AAA.
