Boesch has 1 walk and 17 strikeouts this year.
His last at-bat he swung at a couple balls and struckout.

The Yankees take the count to 3-2 seemingly all game long.

Like I said, you obviously haven't been paying enough attention if you have to wait until mid-May. I've watched each of Smyly's starts, and the kid looks like a veteran with great stuff. My only worry with him is an innings limit.

And as much as people are ready to throw away Porcello, he's had two good starts and two bad starts. That's pretty much par for the course for a fifth starter. Scherzer is the only concern, and it's obvious that his problem is mechanical and could be fixed with a good pitching coach.

Inge was signed to replace Scott Sizemore who blew out his ACL and is gone for the season. How ironic.

Agreed. Max didn't have good control, but the Yankees didn't hit him hard at all. He should have allowed only the one run on the Granderson homer. The umpire screwed him today.

Three good starts aren't enough to make you think a guy could be any good, but two bad starts, one umpire-aided, is enough to make you think he sucks?

I suppose it's a difference of opinion. But most sane people would want to see a rookie pitcher actually prove something outside of April before being completely sold on him. In contrast, this is pretty much porcello's make it or get out year. He hasn't shown nearly enough consistency to be the #3, or #4, for that matter. Scherzer has regressed badly. He was screwed by blue today, but he hasn't been right all year.

Boesch is no Eric Hosmer, but he does share that long reach that allows him to go get pitches like that.

The eye test and numbers say you're wrong about that rookie. And Rick Porcello is 23-years old. This is not a make it or break it year for him.

Yes I'm sure Jeter would have tried it - have seen him do it in fact, but in this case if the roles were reversed it might have worked!

I didn't say Drew hadn't done great so far- He has. All I said was that I personally like to see someone actually do it for a good chunk of the year before I start counting on him. He's made all of 4 starts. That's like being sold on Chris Pittaro as your 3B after a couple of good games. Kind of silly if you ask me.

I do think that the tigers have a serious problem at 3 & 4. You never know what you will get from Porcello or Scherzer. They have been pretty bad so far this year. And with Verlander certain to come down to earth a bit, at least, that is where the rubber will meet the road for this team. The fact is, Scherzer is a 500 pitcher career and Rick is close to that. I don't see how you can get to the next level with a 1, a 2, a suspicious 3 and 4 and a rookie 5, plus have lightweights like Laird, Worth, Santiago and Rayburn playing consistently.

Poor comparison. Pittaro did not have the talent coming into the majors to be solid or above-average; Smyly has the stuff to be a number two or three starter.

This game has the makings for a Tigers win. Yankees can't blow it open. They are squandering their chances. Tigers get a bloop and blast...game over.
