Check your listings. I think the NYM-ATL game was PPD, so more people may be getting the Tigers. I know Ken Rosenthal is now covering the Tigers game, and he covers the primary game usually.

Also, I have a feeling this "hurricane" is going to be about as disruptive as Carmageddon.

    Verlander goes for #20.

I wonder if he will be the first pitcher to pitch with 20 wins at Target field?

I'm off to look up 20 game winners in 2009 and 2010 and schedules.

By the way, that is exactly Mike Tyson's tattoo. I took a screen shot of his face, masked out everything but the tattoo and placed it over Leyland with some amateurish retouching. Paraphrasing Burt Reynold's character in Boogie Nights, "This is the thread I want to be remembered by."

    No 20-game winners in 2009- I didn't remember that.

CC did not pitch in Minnesota at the end of the year.

Pitcher wins and odometer moments don't matter to me, except when they do.

There's no special category for 20-win seasons by the end of August, but the list of pitchers who have done it stands out. Nobody has done it since Curt Schilling in 2002, when he won 23 games for the then-defending World Series champion D-backs. Just three other pitchers -- Roger Clemens with Toronto in 1997, John Smoltz in '96 and Jack McDowell in '93 -- have done it by the end of August in the past 20 years. Cliff Lee barely missed doing so in 2008, picking up his 20th win on Sept. 1. All but Schilling ended the season with a Cy Young Award.

The Tigers are 35-32 on the road this season. This is so different from before. Weren't Coke and Perry amazing last night? Rick got a QS. Players we cringed at seeing earlier are getting in the groove when it really, really matters. This is fun. I never expected it. A couple weeks ago we were lamenting that this was really just a .500 team. A prolonged losing streak could make us believe that again. What a great roller coaster ride.

If the Tigers get a big enough lead, a small losing streak would be frustrating, but not too bad

playing a team 22 games under 500 will tend to do that for you. Not that I'm complaining.

If Verlander goes the first without giving up a hit I am constantly feeling like a no hitter is possible. That is how crazy good he has been this year.

A little on Turner's fine outing in Toledo:

Turner terrific in Toledo … what’s next? « Beck's Blog

...The plan, Nevin said, calls for Turner to start for the Hens in five days, and Turner said his understanding was the same.

On the other hand, there’s the mystery in Minneapolis, where Tigers manager Jim Leyland has an open spot for a starter on Sept. 1, the day rosters expand. Leyland is giving Justin Verlander an extra day’s rest before his next start Sept. 2 against the White Sox. The Sept. 1 game is a makeup contest against the Royals.

According to Chris Iott of Booth Newspapers, when Leyland was asked about the starter for Sept. 1, his answer was, “Stay tuned.”

Andy Oliver is scheduled to start for the Mud Hens Saturday, which would put him on a timetable where his regular turn would come up again Sept. 1. But he also has had a wild summer, most recent seven innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts despite five walks.

Logically, Turner earned the Sept. spot if it's opened.

However, there's a myriad of both logical and illogical reasons it wouldn't be him.

    I hope it is!

Revised: Verlander Goes for 20th Win on the FOX Saturday Baseball Game Of The Week

Revised: Verlander Goes for 20th Win on the FOX Saturday Baseball Game Of The Week
    August 26, 2011 By admin
REVISED FOX BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK REGIONAL BREAKDOWN

Due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Irene, Saturday’s Braves/Mets game in New York will not be part of tomorrow’s FOX Saturday Baseball schedule. The game was postponed by the Mets this afternoon and will not be part of FOX’s 4:00 PM ET broadcast window.

Markets that had been assigned to Braves/Mets have been reassigned to one of FOX’s three remaining games: Detroit-Minnesota, Colorado-LA Dodgers or Pittsburgh-St. Louis. The MLB on FOX pregame shows now originates from Target Field in Minneapolis.

It's sad that it took a hurricane to make a game featuring 2011 JV the primary game of the week. Hopefully I'll get it, I have to go somewhere but should be back in time for the game.

You would think MLB would realize that with how connected the nation and even the world is now, there would be fans of, say, the Rockies over in Florida. They get MLB Extra Innings to watch their team but that doesn't matter on Saturday because MLB says they want to watch the Marlins or Rays (or in my case the Cardinals) go no where

Except that I just discovered that my cable appears to be out. I remember when I used the tv for a workout video on Thursday it appeared to be out too, but didn't think anything of it. I get the guide, but no sound or picture. Considering how little I've been watching tv lately who knows how long this has been like this. Ugh. :(
