    Happy Verday everyone.

Here's what I want to do. Can we all agree that Verlander is a freak? He can throw 120 pitches, and the last 15 are 100 mph. He's a four-man rotation, 300-inning freak. So I would like tp pitch him on three days' rest from now on, and the other guys on four or five days depending upon where their turn falls.

Besises, if they had won tonight and tomorrow, they'd be above 500 on the road and we'd have to start manning the apocalypse watch......

I must say that this series (and I, like you, have watched games at Kaufmann on TV for many, many years) has suddenly made me really want to check out the stadium in the near future. It looks like it's getting better with age.

It's spectacular. They have it oriented so all the seats are in the shade by 7:30 or so for night games (except outfield seating). Most start out in the shade. And this is nearly the time if year with the most sun.

There is a barbecue place in right field where for around $10 you almost get too much food and all the sides and meats I tried were great.

The deluxe nachos on the concourse are almost like tortillaless burritos.

There are lots of other food options. I counted at least 10 beer options including Irish imports, Shocktop, Blue Moon and most common domestics. There were a few foo foo drink booths.

On dollar night, the vendors actually come around with the dollar items.

The Hall of Fame in left field has both historical and interactive exhibits.

The only criticism is that there is no real neighborhood or night life and bars around it. You have two stadiums, three hotels, a gas station and a Denny's surrounded by a lot of asphalt.
There are 30 MLB teams so each one should win the World Series on average once every 30 years.

Does anyone know the time the all-star game itself, not the hoopla part, actually starts? I need the time for the game thread. I don't trust 8:00 PM as a real start time. And, you're welcome! ;)

I think the last few years it has started around 8:45-8:50.

Detroit 7, Kansas City -2. The Tigers decline to bat in the top of the 9th to speed things up and Verlander throws left handed in the bottom of the 9th inning just to add interest.

I will eat my hat if the Royals can score a run off Verlander. Yeah I have been reading the constant drumbeat of how great JV is in all the newspapers lately.

    Rotation after the break:

Verlander, Scherzer, Penny, Porcello, #5 starter. Tigers will lineup Verlander and Scherzer to get starts against the White Sox and Twins after the break.

Barring no rainouts, JV and MS will see the White Sox twice in 12 days.

Tigers entered the all-star break a 1/2 game out last year.
We all know what happened after.
To change things up, it would be nice to be a 1/2 game up going into this one.

Didn't know where to put this, but I thought this was interesting.

Ryan Raburn going into the ASB last season:

    .208 AVG/.637 OPS

    This year:

    .216 AVG/.616 OPS

I know it's well known how he heated up last year, but I didn't know he was just about as bad last season.

The all star break is a week later this year so he does have ~ 7 fewer games to make an impact.

Watching Willis on the split screen MLB.tv. First pitch, 87 mph in the zone. Second pitch, 83 in the middle of the plate. He's black Adam Wilk now.
