That's why we have Bert at the top of the order, it's because of that speed. You can't teach speed. Gardy hasn't stopped that uncontrollable sobbing after tonight's game yet, and Bert's already got the next game thread up. No way can any man stand up against that type of pressure, and Gardy's not even a man he's sort of a hybrid garden gnome/Pillsbury doughboy with the IQ of a dandelion.

I would love to see: solid defense, 6+ runs by the Tigers, and most importantly a sweep. Too much to ask?
Also could somebody tell me in advance the non-game topic of this thread? I'd like to be prepared for tomorrow. ;)This spot, and a place in my heart, is reserved for TC.

Here's what I want to know: which one is Charlotte?
Now I don't want to disparage the efforts of the USO, and those are both lovely girls but strictly as an objective evaluator I have reached the conclusion that neither of those two girls has a spectacular set of legs. And that's not to say that they still can't lead happy and productive lives. It's just that if you want to show that much leg here in the 1940's then you had better have some grade-A legs or, pardon me, gams.
So of the two, which set is better? I've studied this long and hard (ahem). Although both of them need to shape their calves, I'm going to go with the girl on the right (Charlotte?) strictly on length. Comments?

These last two games have been a little too close and a little too back-and-forth. I'd like to see the Tigers lay a good whipping down on the Twins.

Are the Twins two games below 0.333 because they lost twice since they were last there, or one game below 0.333 because a win will return them to 0.333.
I guess it's best not to worry and just put them three or one and a half under 0.333 tomorrow.29 >> 30

I'm a little verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic. Range Factor is neither about a fielder's range, nor should it be much of a factor when discussing fielding prowess. Discuss.

I heard Leyland say last night that Raburn is going to be at 2nd base tonight. Why?
Raburn cost us 3 runs last night trying to play LF.
As for my opinion? I've seen enough of Raburn to last the entire season.
But.....he had such a great second half last season.

Raburn's hitting is making up for his lack of defense.

Haven't seen this anywhere on the board, but Magglio will begin his rehab on Friday for Toledo. Who goes down when he's ready, Dirks?
Also, Coke will start for the Mudhens on Friday.

Magglio to begin rehab assignment with Mud Hens Beck's BlogMagglio to begin rehab assignment with Mud Hens
Jim Leyland has talked with frequency about his Tigers offense treading water until Magglio Ordonez returns, and then hoping he can get the Ordonez of old. He won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
The Tigers, who already had Phil Coke joining Triple-A Toledo on Friday for a rehab start, have added Ordonez to the list. His rehab assignment with the Mud Hens begins Friday on the road at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
No word yet on how long the assignment is expected to last. But if he has his timing down at the plate and shows he can move around well on his surgically repaired right ankle, it isn’t difficult to envision the Tigers activating him quickly.
“I’m really anxious to see if Magglio can get back in there,” Leyland said Tuesday. “That gives us another experienced bat, that’s going to make something, obviously, better if he’s OK.”
Coaches have given Ordonez positive reviews off of his pregame workout sessions. His swing, albeit against batting practice pitches, has shown more pull power, signs of the lower-body strength he didn’t have with his ankle last month. He has supposedly looked good running.
The rehab assignment, obviously, will give him a chance to test that against live pitching. The fact that the Tigers are sending him on the road with the Hens, rather than keeping him at home with Double-A Erie or Class A West Michigan, suggests this assignment is going to last at least into next week, when the Hens return home for an eight-game homestand."If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster."--Clint Eastwood

I'd also hate to see Dirks go down. But maybe that's better than him getting the Wells treatment? Can't see them sending Jackson down, tho he could probably use a stint in AAA.

Wells has to be the one most likely to go down. They barely play him as it is, and he and Magglio are both RHBs.

It's actually a little sad that we have so many interchangible parts in the OF and 2B, yet they are all so crappy. Usually when you have a player set to come back from the DL, you have a pretty good idea who will be sent back down. Or at least have it narrowed down to a couple of guys. It could literally be any one of 5 or 6 guys. And there are cases to be made that it should and shouldn't be each and every one of those guys. I think that's pretty unsusal.

I'm also curious if there will be a Coke/Oliver controversy, when Coke returns. Clearly that will depend upon what Oliver does between now an then.
Furbush, Schlereth, and Purcey would seem to give us adequate LHP coverage in the bullpen. That's not to say taht Coke/Oliver wouldn't be an upgrade over Gonzalez. Even so, I'd think that Oliver would return to Toledo.Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight; my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. -- Psalm 144:1-2

Oliver will go back to Toledo. There is no doubt in my mind. We will need him again.
The next pitching decision will be when bead Thomas returns. The logical choice would be to send down a lefty or else the pen becomes way too lefty heavy. I don't think you can send down furbush, but maybe with purcey now they could do it. Schlereth could also go down. That leaves the pen with two terrible pitchers in Enrique and Thomas. That's one too many. I think they will send down Enrique. And I think Thomas will be on a very short leash and get the dfa relatively soon after returning. At that point, you can bring back Enrique or maybe perry.Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.

I hope Coke doesn't have to go through a period of adjustment before he becomes competent due to this layoff as he did earlier when the season began. Once he got going he was really cooking.
