O's have been pitching very well so far. Either that or Tampa can't hit!

Outfielder Luke Scott is day to day with right groin tightness. Scott doesn't think he'll require a trip to the disabled list, but he isn't expected to play for a few days, including Monday's home opener. Showalter said that Scott was available to pinch-hit on Sunday.

"There are no divots or anything like that -- no pulled muscle," Scott said. "It's just kind of strained a little bit."

Jake Arrieta pitching for the O's - no Tiger has faced him more than 4 times.

Rick Porcello, versus some Baltimore batters. The samples are also tiny in this case:
    Andino 3-4
    J. Fox 2-6
    Vlad G. 1-5
    B. Harris 0-3
    A. Jones 2-3
    J. Lugo 1-4
    Markakis 2-6 with a HR
    F. Pie 1-2
    Roberts 0-3
    Reynolds 2-2 with a HR
    Wieters 0-4

Orioles pitchers have permitted only 3 runs over 3 games. Let's hope that our bats can hit like they did against the Yankees today. And that our starting pitching can begin to be effective.

Every time somebody asks me to predict the AL East for this year, I either tell them TB will be last or fourth (my opinion on Toronto changes all the time). I honestly think that TB's pitching and offense are terrible and they made the O's look a lot better than they are.

Maggs says he will be back tomorrow according to FREEP

Do you bench Raburn or Boesch (I dont see any way you can sit Boesch) or do you keep Avila on the bench and let Martinez catch and Maggs DH?

suppose to be warm weather in Baltimore

good for an old ankle -- probably also nervous he might lose his position.

I would do the bold thing

I thought it was interesting today that Rod Allen feels like Leyland is going to make it a point of emphasis to play the hot hand this year given he is in a contract year. After today's game, I don't know how you can sit Boesch tomorrow. I know it is only one game, but still. Put him in 3 hole again in front of Miggy and see what happens. My guess is Boesch does play tomorrow.

I would not be surprised to see Martinez get the day off tomorrow. Hope not though. My vote would be to sit Maggs or Raburn, probably Maggs.

You cant sit Maggs either (unless he ends up still hurting tomorrow). To me its either going to be Avila or Raburn sitting tomorrow (or maybe a day off for VMart like you mentioned).

Luke Scott would rake against the Tigers on one leg, blindfolded, wearing a straightjacket. If the Tigers & Orioles were in the same division, he's be in Cooperstown by now.

On a side note, I cannot wait to employ to Polish jedi mind trick reverse jinx criticism about the lineup again. That ploy is undefeated and its OE% is off the charts.

I don't think Leyland is going to sit Avila two days in a row this early in the season. Avila will get the chance to prove himself this year. I highly doubt Leyland sits Maggs but I don't see why you can't sit him. I would prefer to see him in the lineup as well but if I had to choose 2 of 3 for just tomorrow's game, I think I would choose Raburn and Boesch.

I think you have to start Wells, --- Boesch is the DH and you bring V-mart in in the 5th or you have him catch and bring Avila in

Yeah, I get this. It was supposed to be semi-sarcastic. Everyone's discussing Raburn-Boesch-Magglio-Avila-Martinez -- which leaves no room for Wells.

Actually, it's the game a player goes through if he is on the bubble. If he is in the minors he can play and hopefully well enough to make him look needed.... If he is on the team and other guys are playing well --- he has a high paid job on the bench
    I'm sure this is wrong

I expect the Orioles to continue, to a degree, the excellent play they showed under Showalter in 2010. They were 34-23 under him the last two months of the season. That's a 96 win pace. I don't think they'll win the division but they will break out. Toronto is on the verge of busting out too. The AL East is going to be a very interesting division to watch with lots of good games this year.

What is the longest Showalter has lasted with a team ? I suspect he will be wearing think in early September and not with the team early in 2012

Sorry, I didn't mean to be too much of a smart-a**, just enough of a smart-a** to be appropriate.

Seriously though: Showalter was solid as Yankees manager. He was again well-suited to the Diamondbacks youth movement, but less suited to the Rangers, which is why I feel he failed there. He is perhaps better suited to the Orioles needs than he was with any of his previous clubs. I don't dispute that he will eventually wear out his welcome. But I think he'll achieve some meaningful accomplishments in Baltimore before that happens, and he may last at least as long there as he did in New York. I wish him success. I wish anything that impacts the Yankees poorly, success.

same here -- I was just going to PM you the same. (about being snarky and I really like that google gadget)

If he is good with young guys, then he seems suited for the Orioles. I just heard a commentator on "It's only a game" say they thought the Orioles would be better than .500, which is barely what the Tigers were last year.
    I'm sure this is wrong

No way you can sit Boesch, right?

I'm really looking forward to Porcello's outing. Not sure why, just have a gut feeling he'll do alright this year.

Wells is the only position player not to get in. His chance was the opener, but i think his last 2 spring games changed Leyland's mind. There were chances yesterday, maybe for late defense, but he never got in.Won't play today with a rh pitcher.Maybe if Ajax stumbles today, could he play center on Tuesday?

Boesch better play today. Its amazing how effective Cabrera can be when there is a guy in front of him getting on base.

Kind of a funky time for the game, looks like I'll have to fly home from work to catch at least 8 innings.

Do you really think that Cabrera hitting two jacks had more to do with Boesch hitting yesterday, and not his own massive talent versus a couple of belt high 89 mph heaters?
