70 or so fewer kittens is OK with me.

Leyland said he already had planned on taking Ordonez out of the field Sunday and using him as the designated hitter, with Victor Martinez getting his first game at catcher. Even as a baserunner, though, Leyland would rather not take chances. If Ordonez doesn’t play, Leyland said, Brennan Boesch will likely start at DH, with Ryan Raburn in left field and Don Kelly in right.
Magglio doubtful for Sunday with sore ankle Beck's Blog

I would play Wells in right but whatever.

Addition: He also said that Santiago is starting at second base.

Scherzer vs. Hughes. Potentially a good pitching duel here. Well Max seems to own Russell Martin at least (1-12 in his career)

    Tiger hitters versus Hughes, career:

    Boesch 2-3
    Avila 0-5
Cabrera 5-12, one double, one HR
    B. Inge 0-6
    Jackson 0-6
    Kelly 1-5
    Martinez 6-13, two doubles
    Ordonez 2-11
    Peralta 4-10, two doubles
    Raburn 0-3
    Rhymes 2-3
    Santiago 0-4

This game is important. I can't imagine starting the season 0-3 is good for a team's mental health.

When are Villareal and Gonzalez going down so we can get Ni and Weinhardt? When will we just admit we were wrong and get rid of Peralta?

Peralta just isn't even good, Inge has been good (so far) and I think Penny will get better.

Well the problem is that Erie and Toledo haven't started up their seasons yet. Any kind of callup situation is going to take a month. That's basically why the first roster is pretty important. I disagree with the Rhymes pick but Dave and his neon shirt brigade made the pick and will have to live with this roster for awhile.

I'm not so sure anymore that Scott would be a defensive downgrade at this point. Every time I see Rhymes in a game, I swear he seems to make an error or misplay. Whoever claimed that Wil is a good defender, well I'm starting to doubt it!

I wouldn't have any idea about most happenings this season beyond stats. I had school Thursday and work today (plus the Cardinals were on here) so I finally get to watch a game tomorrow, hopefully Max's tweak on Wednesday works out.

I think it is smart to hold the older guys out when the temps are in the 50's or so.

But that gives Leyland some offense on the bench if he needs it -- and is willing to use it.

I'm not sure we have that offense on the bench. Boesch is an unknown. And I would throw Wells out there instead of Kelly because DK can't hit so the right/left thing is irrelevant.

Being negative is easy... you can find something to complain abut just about any time of the day or night.. even if it IS happy hour some where.

Why isn't the opposite true.. If the Tigers were 2-0 and Peralta was batting .727 wouldn't people be calling for a contract extention?

As much as it sucks to start the season with two crappy games, it would be even worse if the Twins weren't also playing badly. Heck, even the Whitesox have been sucky. They are just fortunate to be starting against Cleveland.
