Wells will be in the lineup in place of Avila. Probably Wells in RF, Maggs DH, Martinez C.

I wish, but that was unlikely, and now I see the starting line-up has posted and it's no surprise. Leyland will not pull a straight Avila/Wells platoon. On opening day he was certainly going to go with his top defensive catcher.

What is the next LH SP that we face? That will be the first test as to how Leyland is going to use Avila and Wells.

Would not shock me to see him designate Martinez as someone's personal catcher (with no regard to the opposing pitcher), and then only use him for spot starts other than that. That will piss me off, but not surprise me.

    DAMN!

    Workout day at Yankee Stadium
It’s a beautiful morning in New York — cool, but not cold, and plenty of sun to go around. Great day for players to work out and get used to the northern climate again as they adjust to leaving Florida, where it was the upper 80s just a few days ago.

The forecast for tomorrow, on the other hand … yikes. We might find out why they schedule an off-day after the season opener, just in case they need to postpone.
Workout day at Yankee Stadium Beck's Blog

    Detroit Tigers @ NY Yankees

    1:05 pm ET
    Yankee Stadium (Bronx, N.Y.)
Bottom line: Chilly rain, stiff E-NE wind. Delays likely, postponement possible.

My Opening Day goal is to teach my son how to keep score. With the ability to pause our DVR if any more detail is needed (for example a 6-4-3-6-1-4 rundown) it should be fun.

Extremely mixed feelings about the weather. I would hate to see Opening Day rescheduled (and have to wait longer!) but I would be able to watch more of the game if it was on Friday or Saturday.

I guess it must happen, but when was the last time MLB had to reschedule an opening day? I don't think it happens that often.

Weather makes this interesting. Postponed to a DH on Saturday? Awesome. You guys will notice there is NO game scheduled for Friday.....my guess is because Good Friday.

So would they make the game on Friday? The office closes at 12:00pm on Friday honoring the holiday. I could watch the game on Friday or Saturday.

I actually kind of hope it gets postponed. A DH to OPEN the season on a SATURDAY would kick some serious bleep!

They always have a day off after opening day because of the large chance there could be some bad weather, not because of Good Friday. I don't see a DH happening on Saturday. Hopefully they just get they game in, I took the day off.

To get more right-handed hitters up against the left-hander Sabathia many thought more along these lines:

    Jackson - CF
    Raburn - LF
    Ordonez - DH
    Cabrera - 1B
    Martinez - C
    Wells- RF
    Peralta - SS
    Inge - 3B
    Santiago - 2B

    Martinez, DH
    Ordonez, 9
    Peralta, 6
    Avila, 2
    Inge, 5
    Rhymes, 4

I would rather Cabrera hit ahead of Martinez & Ordonez. I would rather Raburn hit higher than any of our 2B options.

Well, if you want to get crazy, LHB's fared better against Sabathia in 2010 than RHB's. That doesn't hold true with his career numbers, but...

I wonder, if the game is postponed on Thursday to Friday, how long do the Yankees officials wait to tell the Tigers this time?

I think the lineup should be:

    Thome
    Branyan
    Raburn for some defense
    Jake Fox
    Vlad
    Manny
    Billy Butler
    Napoli
    Oh and almost forgot, Inge
