Well, I don't think that a Major League Baseball team has ever played two games in a row in which its pitchers threw no-hitters. At least the Tigers have that going for them.

Of course, there's always a first time for everything.

Tigers win. Twins and Sox both lose to keep us on the dreaded line of in-the-race/out-of-the-race for another day.

Bert; because we have been reduced to a AAA team + Cabrera, I have to ask that you kindly reduce on your demand...

This is where Justin can make a statement. We need a stopper in the worst way, and Verlander knows it. And he knows that everyone else knows it, too.
I hope he wakes up in a pissy mood tomorrow. He seems to pitch better when he's in a bad mood.

By the look of JV's face when he was clapping the 27th out last night, he was already realising that he was going to have to come up with something big tonight.
I think he makes a real statement, its not like he can go out there relying on the bats. He'll take it on his shoulders.

Beck's 'presumably' is probably right. I think I'll look at NL teams in need of a fourth or fifth starter anyway later today.@beckjason #Tigers rotation for Boston this weekend is out, and Bonderman is skipped. Presumably he's being saved for Chisox doubleheader Tues. #Tigers29 >> 30

I don't think it's likely. I think the most likely thing is that they wanted some road wins and so they want Scherzer and Verlander to pitch in Boston.
That said, it's not a horrible idea. The Tigers will likley play sub 500 ball the next month becasue of their opposition and their line up. Probably either the White Sox, or Twins will play above 500. I could easily see the Tigers out 6-8 games by the end of August. They will make some of that up with the easier September schedule. It would be hard to make all of that up.
Now I'm not going to claim the sky is falling. The Tigers have a lot of games against the White Sox in August that could swing this dramatically one way or the other just based on a couple lucky(unlucky) bounces. However, if you could get a catcher, or shortstop who projects to be a nearly average player in 2012, for example, there is no reason to be overly optimistic about a third place team missing three regulars from the line up.
If anyone ones to quote this in the trade thread we should probably carry on there instead of the game thread.29 >> 30

Pretty close to what my ideal lineup would be except I'd play Sizemore at second and Larish at third, but I won't complain too much.

I hope Verlander can dig in today and throw a shutout, because that's what it feels like it's going to take.
For people who like pitching, if you want to see the AL's best changeup, watch Shields. Scherzer's getting there, however."I can't say I'm pleased to see you and warn you I may have to do something about it." Knut Hamsun

i'm going to try and back up all my posts with numbers from now on, in an effort to be more credible.
It'd be nice to win tonight, and I've got the numbers to prove it.

I had a very odd dream today that basically acted as a giant metaphor about the Tigers trading with the Yankees to get Curtis Granderson back.

I'd rather see Larish in the lineup over Rhymes. But otherwise, that's probably about the best lineup we have right now. Which is depressing as hell.

Mark speaks the truth. But the fact that layland still doesn't put the best lineup out there infuriates me.
Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.

What bugs me is the laziness shown of plugging guys into the lineup. I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but like when he would give Magglio a day off. Whatever backup was taking his place would just get plugged into the #3 spot. Like Raburn or Kelly. HUH??
Jim's reasoning is "The other guys are comfortable in their normal positions".
Again - HUH?? If that is really the case, I'd say it's time for a Gene Hackman/Norman Dale moment from "HOOSIERS". That is, take the measuring tape out and show these guys that the mound is 60 feet, six inches.
Putting .200 hitters at the top of the lineup while resting regulars drives me berserk.
(That said - I don't want Jim fired or anything)

The 2 hole should be the spot where one of your 3 best hitters bat. Apparently, Leyland views Rhymes as one of our best hitters.
Hopefully, we get lucky and he gets on base a couple times tonight.Dreaming about a repeat of 1984, 1968, 1945 and 1935

I've lowered my expectations. If the Tigers can get one hit tonight, I will be happy....
....provided that the hit is a HR, and proves to be enough to give JV a win since he'll be pitching a shutout tonight.
This spot, and a place in my heart, is reserved for TC.
