Per Beck: DET Recap
The Tigers are on local television in Detroit for the first time this Spring Training against an already-familiar foe this year, hosting the Blue Jays in a 1:05 p.m. ET start also on MLB.TV. Armando Galarraga gets his chance to answer Saturday's strong performances from Dontrelle Willis, Nate Robertson and Jeremy Bonderman in the rotation race when he starts Monday opposite Toronto left-hander Marc Rzepzcynski. Brad Thomas, Ryan Perry and Jose Valverde are slated to pitch in relief for the Tigers.
Edit: By the way, there are no radio feeds for either the Tigers or the Jays for this game. There is only the FSD TV feed."If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster."--Clint Eastwood

I hope we get to see Austin Jackson and Scott Sizemore in the lineup.
I just want to see Galarraga throw strikes tomorrow. If your stuff isn't good enough to get hitters out by throwing strikes, then so be it. But don't let walks be your downfall as a major league pitcher. At least force the other team to beat you by swinging at the pitches.

Per Beck's Blog:Beck's Blog
Jackson won't have a chance to show it (his speed) Monday, at least not during the game. Leyland said right after Sunday's game that he won't play Monday against the Blue Jays. He'll take batting practice with the team in the morning, hit the back fields to lay down 50 bunts for base hits, then he's free to head home. Casper Wells will start in center field instead."If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster."--Clint Eastwood

Galarraga has always had good sinking action on his stuff. When he attacks the strike zone, he is effective. He can work in the strike zone more than most pitchers because of his sinking action. I think his biggest problem last year is that he would throw his slider so far out of the zone that hitters wouldn't even bite on it. And he also nibbles too much with his fastball.

Sizemore certainly gets his money's worth at the plate. He really swings hard.

Not a good start to the third inning for Galarraga. Rod Allen says he needs to mix in a breaking ball and he is right. The Blue Jays are just sitting on his fastball now.

Results are poor but I like some of what I'm seeing from Armando.

I liked some of what I saw as well, but I didn't see enough to think he is a true candidate for the rotation. He also has one more option, so that fuels my thoughts he will start the year in Toledo as well.
He has not matched Robertson, Bonderman or Willis IMO, and the fact he has an option as well.2010 AAT: Eddie Bonine (Tigers Bullpen Pitcher)

So I really want to watch the game but I have this to work on (electrical today). Been working on it for two days and if I don't keep working on it my *** is grass and my wife is the lawn mower.

Galarraga is pitching to the Blue Jays AAA team, Toronto doesn't have any of their regular starters in Lakeland today.
However, Tigers defense looks like hot garbage. Inge not taking care of the line and giving up a double that should've been a double play and then Wells in CF misplaying a fly-ball and then Avila letting a pitch get by him led to the 3 runs.
Nunez at short and Cabrera at 1B have played good D today.

I don't know that that is what is going on. But I would imagine that at this point, when its time to start to stretch out arms, they would say work on this pitch, but we need to see success as well.
If you can honestly tell me that Galarraga has done anything to deserve the 5 spot, I will take that argument.2010 AAT: Eddie Bonine (Tigers Bullpen Pitcher)

Turner is amazing. 93 mph to 81 mph with the same arm action, according to Rod.

Guess the Tigers needed a AAA pitcher to take care of the Blue Jays AAA hitters.

Rod - "We all know that Gerald Laird, in my opinion, should have won a gold glove last year."
I suppose it's true, we do all know Rod's opinion.
