You're wrong. The season is over. It's time to panic and overreact now. \o/

If we lose this division its on Leyland. Fair or not you can not BLOW two large leads down the stretch and be considered a good manager.

Instead of showing live baseball, Fox is showing highlights of the 2004 Red Sox/Yankees ALCS.

I just started following the game in the 7th inning. Leyland is an awful manager. His management, from putting Don Kelly in as a defensive replacement to his pitcher handling, was awful in that inning.
The way they are going now, these chokers are going to blow yet another big division lead to the Twins, a la 2006. 2 runs on 11 hits (all singles). Nice going.

Maybe this series against the Twins will help weed out all the fairweather fans.

Hey everyone - shut it!
If I would have been able to tell you that the Tigers would be 2 games up and in first place on September 19th after finishing LAST in the previous year, you'd be ecstatic.
Season is not over. It's just way more exciting than we thought it was going to be.

Until someone actually takes the division lead from us and clinches it, the season is not over. Even as maddening and frustrating as their play has been the last couple of weeks, it is still not over.

I hope the Twins lose 120 games next year now that they are no longer playing in that inflated sack of urine.

Even if you'd add the fact that we were in 1st place since May 10th and had a 7 game lead to start September? Nothing to be estactic about on September 19th with all facts considered.
We just had a game stolen from us.

I am far from a fairweather fan and I am saying that they are done for the season. A miracle could happen but it's highly unlikely. Stick the fork in them.

I almost never get really upset watching a baseball game. This is the angriest I've been watching a game in years. I think the last one involved the Metrodump as well.

11 hits and 2 runs? You seriously expect to win ballgames like this? Dombrowski needs to really work a miracle this off-season and acquire people who, you know, can hit.

I'm not sticking a fork in them until the Twins have the division on the final day of the season. There are still three weeks or so left to play and they will leave Minnesota with the divisional lead, even if they get swept.

So because we voice our opinions that this isn't a good baseball team, means we're bandwagoners/fairweather?
I persoanally like it when we are so incredibly flawed at one aspect. It makes it glaringly obvious what needs to be done for next season. Last offseason, it was pitching (promarily BP) and defense. For this offseason, we'll need a legit back-end starter and hitters.

It's not over at all. Not when the Tigers still have the lead. The Twins are not a good team and 10 of their last 13 games are on the road. I expect this race to go down to the wire.

Thank you. I guess going to 50 games a year including road trips is the definition of a fairweather fan. I tend to treat things as a realist, and if the team is bad I'm going to say so.

Well, forget another Metrodome disaster and get them tomorrow. The Tigers win roughly a third of the games they play there, so they should get a win tomorrow. I'd rather someone other than Robertson pitching, but you play the hand you're dealt. I just hope he's being truthful about being pain-free.

lol i am as far from a fairweather fan as they come...and the season is not over. Minnesota plays 10 of their remaining 14 games on the road, and the Tigers are 7 home and 7 away. Minnesota, like the Tigers, is a crappy road team away from their home stadium. I didnt even read this thread (other than the last page) but I can only imagine...
That said...I watched the entire game (til the 9th). The Tigers having only 2 runs on 11 hits (ALL singles) was irritating, but the Tigers defense and starting pitching in this game was superior to the Twins. And all game long, I had a very uneasy feeling that something was going to happen involving the oddities that come with playing baseball at the Metrodump, and sure enough, the house of horrors kicked in in the 8th, losing balls in the bright white roof. I cannot remember when i was more disgusted with a game.

Leyland using a September call up to play LF for defense in that place? Inexcusable. Just a totally stupid move that probably cost us the game. If he had to replace Guillen, use Raburn or even Thames. But Kelly?
Just.
Plain.
Stupid.

I want to be optimistic. We are still in first place with the Twins playing 10 of their last 13 games on the road. But I just don't see many signs of life with this team. With Jackson wearing down, I only trust two of our starters right now (one of them 20 years old). Factor that in with the completely anemic offense, it's not looking too good.

Just plain correct. If the Twins won the game by getting legtimate hits, I'd be pissed, but not disgusted as I am now. Raburn isn't a Gold Glover, but he catches that damn ball, period.

This team has a negative run differential. It's not a good team, period. All the Dombrowski sunshiners extolling the virtues of the roster he assembled in the world can't make the Tigers a good team. If they hang on to win the division (and that's looking unlikely now), it will be because none of the other teams in the AL Central are good either.

I seem to remember Kelly making a few defensive misplays (especially in St. Louis) earlier this season. Why Leyland considers him a defensive replacement is beyond me. That stupidity likely cost the Tigers a game today.
