This is what bothers me the most. We know what Fossum/Lopez can do, it no one any benefit to use them right now.

E-freaking-nough of Sheffield. An 800 OPS post-ASB is not nearly enough to keep him, especially given this team's overall problems. Just give him his unconditional release and just eat his contract.

This lethargy on the field is certainly an enigma. I'm not one who generally believes that a manager has much of an effect on the success of a team, but I do think that a manager is at his most effective in his first year of a new assignment. After that he gradually gets tuned out. And as the old saying goes, it's easier to replace the manager than it is to replace all the players.
hmmm
not that I needed it (a reason), but time to go to bed or listen to the DNC

How do we judge these positive or negative results in meaningless games? We're told not to judge Renteria b/c we're out of it and there's no pressure. What about Ordonez going into the tank? I need some help with that.

Renteria is actually above his career averages (296/357/456/813 vs. 290/350/404/754) since the ASB.

Man edgar owns cleveland.

As much as I hate to admit it, I wouldn't seeing edgar's option picked up...no other good options, he owns at least one divisional opponent, we gave up Jair freaking Jurrjens for him so better get some value out of him.

I think Leyland has something to prove here at the end of the season. It's not right for the fans who are packing CoPa to have a crummy product. He needs to act immediately to try and stem these sluggish performances by the veterans, even if it means bringing up a bunch of guys and playing a rookie lineup once or twice just to make a point. My guess is the fans would appreciate it for a time or two.

I have been back and forth on this question. If this team needs to be shaken up, it would be foolish to pick up Renteria's option, IMHO.

As far as Renteria, a HR is a HR is a HR. I think Renteria is finally right back to where we all expected him to be. He had a horrible adjustment to AL pitching, obviously.

I don't consider these games meaningless at all. There are 40,000 people paying big bucks and a lot of time to come to these games, and they are giving it a lot of effort despite the bad product.

As far as Ordonez, there's probably some injury causal factors, but we cannot subsist with Maggs hovering around an 800 OPS and getting shut down in half of the games.

I don't think anyone on earth really watches the conventions (either party) just a case of a boring game late in the season.

I watched the whole thing, but there wasn't much to post about

Renteria makes an old slow team continue to be old and slow.

I understand the point of keeping him, but on a team that has zero payroll flexibility losing him could provide some relief.

I'll add: "A crummy left-handed pitcher". When I saw that the Tigers were sending Galarraga to battle against an undistinguished lefty, I fully expected that they would win by a large margin. Armando held up his end of the deal...........

Actually, I woke up at 9 (I work midnights and I work 8 days and then have 6 off, today is my first off day) and saw the score was 10-2 and my TV has been on CNN ever since. With the olympics being immediately followed by the DNC and then the RNC, its fully possible that at the time the RNC concludes, I will have spent close to a month and a half with my TV literally on only three channels in that entire period (NBC, Fox Sports Detroit, and CNN).

But he's almost 100% and will start tearing the cover off the ball when he is...

I went there tonight- I figured how could I not get my money's worth with $3 tickets in the 6th row? And I thought it would be fun to see a pitcher's ML debut.

I guess my biggest disappointment is the defense didn't help Lambert out of the third. I think that was the inning where in addition to the two errors Ordonez elected to play a ball on the hop that looked catchable (from left field, anyway).

It also seems they are already using replay at Comerica. A fan in Section 150 threw the 2nd of the back to back home runs back on the field. A couple batters later security swooped in and took him to a 5 minute time out. It must have been the replay.

Well, you're tougher than I am then, I follow politics very closely, but even I don't have the strength to listen to windbag governors embarrass themselves with terrible speeches full of factual errors.
