8/25/08 -- Cleveland Indians (Jackson) vs. Detroit Tigers (Galarraga) -- 7:05
Coming to you LIVE from Comerica Park in sunny, beautiful Detroit, Michigan...
It’s Your
DETROIT TIGERS
versus the
Cleveland Indians
PITCHING MATCHUP:
Cleveland – LHP Zach Jackson (0-0, 5.17 ERA)
Jackson scuffled a bit in his second start since being called up from Triple-A Buffalo, but he gave the Tribe innings -- something he couldn't deliver in his first outing. Acquired in the trade that sent CC Sabathia to the Brewers, Jackson went seven innings and gave up five runs (four earned), which was more than enough to prevent him from picking up his first Major League win since July 17, 2006. Most of the damage came in a four-run fifth inning, when he surrendered a three-run double to Mike Aviles. Jackson has never faced the Tigers.
Detroit – RHP Armando Galarraga (12-4, 3.17 ERA)
Now that Galarraga has dispensed his revenge on the Rangers for trading him last offseason by defeating them last Tuesday, he'll try to get back to business as usual with a chance to beat the Indians for the fourth time this season. Cleveland has batted just .159 in three starts against him this year, during which he has lasted 17 2/3 innings. Galarraga is 4-0 in his past five starts, pushing him into a battle with former Tiger and current Atlanta Brave Jair Jurrjens for the Major League rookie wins lead this season.
Notes: The Tigers will likely make a move after Monday's game to make room for Chris Lambert, whose contract will be purchased from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday in order for him to start Tuesday night's game. ... Gary Sheffield's eight-game hitting streak ended Sunday. He had been hitting 12-for-33. ... Curtis Granderson has 15 walks over his last nine games, including seven during the three-game weekend series against the Royals.
LET'S GO TIGERS!

I'm by no means a socially conscious person, but it seems to me having a thread title with a racial slur probably isn't a good thing.

What I'd really like is to see the Tigers win an overwhelming majority of their remaining division games.

I'll be there! Me and my friend used to meet up at the State Bar before every game, but lately we've been going the River's Edge by the Ren Cen.
We'll be in 216 in the handicap section.

Swell. I'll be the guy with glasses and blue Cabrera jersey shirt. I used to sit in those box seats all the time when they had all those 2 for one coupons you get in those entertainment books. I also sat in that very section (row A) for game 4 of the '06 ALCS. Good times...

Ok, I'll look for you. I suspect the crowd will be thinner now that school has started for some. We may not make it to the seats. (shame, really, I guess the low cut cleavage shirts will be out of season now, it's getting cooler).
But I'm on the end, seats 3/4. Usually sit in 1 and 3 though as 1/2 hardly come.

I've never understood the term to be offensive. If it is, I apologize to anyone who cares.

"Curtis Granderson has 15 walks over his last nine games, including seven during the three-game weekend series against the Royals. "
And how many steals? One.

I second this opinion, though I'm not holding out much hope since they haven't really done that this year. The key to the playoffs resides in this, and I just don't see it happening. Still, though, I'll take victory!

Ya know, I think it's time to ask some of those Colorado fans what kind of voodoo ritual they did last year... I wouldn't be opposed, hypothetically, of course, to sacrificing something to pull off a similar run...

That is, unfortunately, the problem. Leyland is bound and determined to keep Granderson put and hoping that Polanco can move him over and maggs/miggy drive him in. Far too often it is a Polanco fly out and a Maggs GIDP.

Curtis is so much more effective and dangerous when he gets the green light. I wish JL would give it to him more. It would allow this team to get quick runs early more often, and maybe let the pitchers settle in earlier.

Early in the year it seemed like Curtis had the green light more often. After getting pitched out on a few times while getting thrown out a few times on his own it seemed like Leyland gave up on that idea quickly. I'm not sure if you blame Curtis, lack of other base running threats on the team, or Jim for picking the wrong times for him to go.

I'm thinking a 6-4 win tonight -- GaGa goes six strong, Seay, Farnsworth and Rodney do decently enough in relief.
