9-11-07: GAME TWO - Texas Rangers (McCarthy) @ Detroit Tigers (Jurrjens), 7:05

From Comerica Park in Detroit, MI, it's the
Defending American League Champion

versus the

MLB Standings
PITCHING MATCHUP:

Det - Jair Jurrjens, RHP (1-1, 3.60)

Tex - Brandon McCarthy, RHP (5-8, 4.79)
Scouting Report:
Rangers: McCarthy has not pitched since Aug. 10, because of a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade. He will likely be limited to three innings and 45-50 pitches. He was supposed to pitch in a simulated game, but the Rangers decided a regular game would be better. He was 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in six starts after the All-Star break before he went on the disabled list. He is 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA in nine career games, including two starts, against the Tigers, but this will be the first time that he has faced them this season.
Tigers: Jurrjens will likely pitch against the Rangers, as the Tigers need a sixth starter in the rotation with a doubleheader scheduled. The 21-year-old Jurrjens has shown flashes of his potential in three starts with the Tigers, including a one-hit, one-run effort in 6 2/3 innings against the Indians on Aug. 21. However, he felt tightness in his shoulder in his next start and was pulled after 1 1/3 innings. All indications are that the injury isn?t major and there are no further health concerns about Jurrjens. He will likely pitch out of the bullpen for the Tigers after this start.

I hope Jurrgens is healthy enough to be the old Jair that shut down the Indians.

Haha, sweet picture. If McCarthy is limited to such a short game, how is the Texas bullpen? I really have no idea. I'm such a homer.

Two very winnable games, I should think.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Doubleheaders are fun.
Needing other teams to lose is not so fun. But I digress.
Go Tigers!

To answer your question, their bullpen looks very hittable overall. However, if they get a lead late it looks like they can lock it down pretty well with Otsuka, Benoit, and Wilson. If we can knock Padilla out of the first game quick and burn their bullpen some, we should be able to gas them for the rest of the series.AAT: Clete Thomas ('09), Patrick Leyland ('10)

That's quite a match-up--two pitchers just coming off the DL. I love September baseball (double-headers, too).

The games in a double header can be really different. I remember that 26-run loss in the first game against the Royals two or three years ago and then we came back to shut them out in the second game. Hope we can repeat that here.

Otsuka is hurt and Wilson has sucked lately, so the Rangers bullpen is definitely beatable.

The Tiggers get a split by trouncing those bums from Texas by the score of 11-6. Pudge puts on a dizzying display of offense by getting 3 hits(one a HR) and 5 RBI. Jurrjens goes 5 innings and allows 3 runs(2 earned).

Granderson is the man
I was listening to ESPN radio on my way to school and one of the commentators was talking about the MVP race and he made the argument that Granderson should be voted as the second most valuable to Rodriguez - very interesting discussion even with the season Maggs is having
