Wright has a much better road record and has been pretty good lately.
With that said, this is the Playoffs in Comerica with a stadium full of rabid fans with years of pent up playoff withdrawl on the brink of eliminating the "best offensive lineup ever put together." Good luck Jaret. You are not ready.
The Yankee bats will be desperate to get on the board early and erase last night's memories from their minds. If we can get to Wright early, get a couple across and let Bonderman settle in, I love our chances.
We haven't had to really use our pen yet so Leyland can pretty much pull out all the stops and do what he has to do to get the win.
GO TIGERS!

One of the stories in this morning's paper said this feels like Pistons-Lakers in 2004. Sounds about right to me.

Anyone who says they won't be able to watch the game needs to get his priorities straight. The Tigers are the most important thing in the world.
Ajax is only the third most valuable tiger.

They kept repeating last night that there is a 73% chance that the game 3 winner, ends up winning the ALDS series. Kruk was right that the Yankees looked like all they had to do was show up and not try or anything and that they assumed that they would win. They looked like robots with no emotion. I'm hoping Bonderman just throws his game and doesn't try to overdo or try to outdo what Kenny did last night. The key is when the Yankees get that single, or a double or get a couple of runners on, how he will deal with that. In his last few starts, when that happens, he gets down on himself, looses concentration and things snowball. Hopefully he can be mentally tough and hopefully he is in the mindset that the Yankees will probably get base runners on and that they will probably score a few runs, but he can't let that bother him.

Bert and Yoda, that was a great picture for the game thread. Sometimes you will include an appropriate quotation at the bottom of the first post, but for today's game you didn't.
In the absense of such a quote, if you don't mind, I'd like do the honors of offering an inspirational thought to go with today's game:
Energy and persistence conquer all things.

rogers said this about him pitching...
"I'm not afraid to fail, I think I've proven that by going out and failing enough," Rogers said after his victory. "I'm still here for a reason, because I like the challenge.
I hope that flows into the rest of the Tigers players... to not be afraid to fail.

I'm calling a Craig Monroe walk-off.

Yoda,
I don't know about the walk-off (thought I sure would like it) but it looked to me like Craig is about to bust out. He just missed a couple last night, late in the game. I'd love to see him and/or Inge get a big hit.

Getting to this point is just amazing. If we get the good Bonderman today, we are going to the ALCS. If I was a gambler and was going to bet money, there's no way I would have picked the Tigers in this series, but seeing my team as the underdog has made this series so much more satisfying.
I was just browsing the Yankees MLB.com board, and their fans seem almost convinced that the Yankees are done. The cockiest fans in baseball are talking about who they need to acquire in the off-season (Ervin Santana's name has come up), and there is a thread proclaiming the Yankees as the new Atlanta Braves, always making it to the post season and then not doing anything. I know the MLB.com boards are usually full of morons, but its just exciting to think that those cocky S.O.B.'s are now afraid of the old english D!!

I just hope the Tigers don't think they've won it yet. This lineup is still dangerous. I was counting down the outs. Every inning is a potential rally. There is no top or bottom of the order. It's just 9 guys that can hit. Bonderman can't let up.
Also, Wright's numbers aren't as bad as I thought. It seems like when the Tigers face a pitcher with an ERA between 4.45 and 4.90 they struggle..

Here are the Tigers hitters career numbers vs. Jared Wright.
Granderson 1 for 2 1 BB (.500)
Polanco 2 for 6 2 RBI (.333)
Casey 5 for 11 2 BB 3 RBI (.455)
Magglio 8 for 18 1 HR 2 RBI (.444)
Guillen 2 for 4 1 HR 1 RBI (.500)
Pudge 2 for 10 3 K
Monroe 0 for 3 1 K
Thames never faced Wright
Inge 0 for 2 1 K
I know career numbers are thrown out the window in the playoffs. Rogers proved that last night. But just thought that was interesting info for today.
I don't think Leyland will let the players think they have already won this series before it is over. I think he will be on their butts to focus and play hard as if they were down 0-2 instead of up 2-1.

Two things Ill be looking for early are if Bonderman is aggressive in the strike zone or if hes trying to miss bats and the hitters approach at the plate. I think the slump late in the year was due to the Tigers trying to be more like the Yankees, taking pitches and such. The hitters need to swing at thier pitches whether its the first pitch or the fourth, not try to work the count.

It will be interesting to see what approach the Yankees take at the plate. Some analysts have said that the usual Yankee approach of taking a lot of pitches (especially at the beginning of the pitch count) has gotten them in trouble. Rogers was throwing a lot of strikes early in the count. Therefore, do the Yankees start being more aggressive at the plate? This could play into Bonderman's hands too.

Game 4 can't start soon enough for me.
Last night was not only electric at Comerica Park, but also on this message board. It was nice to celebrate with the Tigers fans and Yankee-haters here.
-
Well those free-swinging Tigers have outscored them 9-0 over the last 14 or so innings.

I'm so glad Bonderman is getting this chance. He has been my favorite Tiger for the last two years... i want him to clinch this for us.

Today is must win as it gets. We can't lost today. We won't beat Wang at Yankee Stadium, tonight is where we have to shut the door in the Yank's faces.
Being said, tonight won't be easy at all. Wright's been in the post-season many times. Bondo hasn't. The Yankees have the advantage here, no matter how Wright has pitched this season. Tigers need to put up some big runs early to support Bondo, and we need the good Bonderman, not the blame game Bonderman."Violence on television only affects children whose parents act like television personalities" -David Byrne

You have to know Rogers has been talking to Bonderman the past few hours, talking about these moments, etc...
Rogers has been great to this staff, and I expect him to help Bonderman's mindset heading into today's game -- lets hope Bonderman responds!

Someone should make a video of all Jay Leno's snide jokes about the Tigers during the 2003 season, and play it on an endless loop in front of Bonderman's locker.
Then, Leyland should tell him: "Jeremy, today is your opportunity to shove every one of those smug jokes right back in Leno's moon face."

The Yankees haven't scored a run since Damon's 4th inning curtain call Thursday. That gods of baseball were not amused by that little display.
