NHL.com Game Preview
Season series: This is the first of three matchups between the teams. The Red Wings swept a four-game season series against the Stars in 2011-12.
Big story: Jaromir Jagr has been splendid through his first two games with Dallas. The 40-year-old winger, who signed as a free agent last summer, has two goals and two assists for his new club.
Team scope:
Stars: After winning their opener on home ice against Phoenix on Saturday night, the Stars couldn’t solve Minnesota goalie Josh Harding in a 1-0 loss to the host Wild on Sunday. Dallas recorded 24 shots on goal.
"Back-to-back [games], we seemed a little lethargic to start the game," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. "If you want to win on the road, you've got to be prepared and sometimes you can get the game in the first 10 minutes like they did."
Red Wings: Detroit earned its first win of the season in dramatic fashion Monday night, as Damien Brunner’s highlight-reel shootout tally allowed the Wings to survive in Columbus with a 4-3 win against the pesky Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. It was the type of response coach Mike Babcock was looking for after his team suffered a 6-0 loss at St. Louis in the season opener Saturday night.
"This was an important game tonight," goalie Jimmy Howard said. "You don't want to go down 0-2, especially in the shortened season. Two points are key. We got `em. Now we want to enjoy this on the flight home."
Who’s hot: Jagr isn’t the only Star playing well at the start of the season. Fellow forwards Ray Whitney and Loui Eriksson have a goal and an assist each. … Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist for Detroit on Monday night.
Injury report: Dallas defenseman Aaron Rome has missed the first two games with a groin injury. … Detroit has been hit hard by the injury bug. Carlo Colaiacovo suffered a shoulder injury Monday night and will not play. He joins Darren Helm (back), Todd Bertuzzi (mononucleosis), Patrick Eaves (post-concussion syndrome), Jakub Kindl (groin strain), Jan Mursak (collarbone) and Jonathan Ericsson (shoulder).Last edited by lordstanley; 01-27-2013 at 03:34 PM.

Detroit News is reporting that the Wings are in the process of signing a veteran defenseman, and he may be available to play today.
I just met you, and this is crazy,
I want JBK to see this, could you quote me maybe?

Does anybody have any insight into which veteran d'man the Wings may be targeting?

It looks like Samuelsson can be added to the list of the wounded Wings. Gustav Nyquist recalled and expected to fill Sammy's spot on the roster for tonight's game.

It is too bad Huskins isn't replacing Quincey in the line up. Stay at home guy at least.

Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

a) In my experience casual fans aren't terribly knowledgeable, so I don't know as that using casual fans as a measuring stick means much, and
b) knowing guys who played 300 games in the NHL over the last 6 years isn't remotely the same as knowing anyone who has appeared in the NHL over the last 5 seasons, so get out of here with that strawman.Last edited by Mr. Bigglesworth; 01-22-2013 at 01:57 PM.

1-0 Dallas after the first period. Not a terrible period, it seemed like they controlled play for much of it. Still throwing up a goose egg on the PP though.

Jimmy is saving the Wings *** right now. This PP is brutal

Do we have the worst defense in the NHL? I think that answer is an emphatic yes!

I am still baffled that Ken Holland didn't aggressively pursue Michal Rozsival during the off-season. Rozsival is no Suter, heck not even quite at Matt Carle's level, but he is certainly comparable to a Jonathan Ericsson.
