  1. I agree. The Tigers have never gone 4 consecutive years sub 70 wins in their history. 2019 is the 3rd. Good chance next year is the 4th but I hope not.
  2. Dan Gilbert was released from the hospital today for the stroke he suffered a few weeks ago. I had hoped the Illitch family would sell the Tigers to him and it was interesting that Gilbert was severing ties with casinos. Gilbert can appear to be somewhat of a nutjob but he is very invested in Detroit, passionate about sports and the city and has been willing to spend huge with the Cavs. I hope he is mending well and I'd still like to see the Illitch's sell him the Tigers
  3. The year I became a Tigers fan was '72 (I was 6) and I still remember Campy throwing his bat at LaGrow in the ALCS
  4. I think Nick will get hot and soon. Det will land a 25 yo prospect in hi A for whom Chadd has retained a hard on much like he did Pelfry.
  5. I like the optimism. There are days I get lost in the gloom of the current team and replay the Randy Smith era in my mind. And the day Ron LeFlore got traded. And the day Bo let Ernie go. And Big Papi's grand slam. All games that Pelfry pitched. When dish network dropped ESPN classic. The day I got my satan cat. Things of this nature. Positive framing helps. I thank you all.
  6. Yes they did. I keep waiting to see some mention of Bojarski. His production is noteworthy. I didn't even know who he was until this year
  7. At least AA has been transparent about his plan and is following it. But I still think Chris I. will have to open his wallet when the starting pitching studs are in the rotation to add some FA bats
  8. Skubal continues to get some love. He was mentioned as a hot prospect on BA recently
  9. They actually say Boyd and Merrifield are two top candidates but are listed lower due to the likelihood Det and KC keep them. Listing Nick at 8 seems odd to me given his D. Maybe as a dh
  10. Has Boras ever had a client who accepted the QO? If Det makes that offer and Nick stupidly declines, no team will offer him a 50+ mil contract so there will be no comp pick
  11. No contender would give value for him unless it's as a dh and they believe his production will improve this year to similar or better than the last 2 years
  12. Not that it means much, but Det's farm teams (low A to AAA) are collectively 44 games under .500. Even Erie is 2 games below. I'm not confident enough in their player development to believe they will contend at all. DD got them there with trades and Mr I's wallet. Hopefully some from this years draft produce. If fans are banking on Daz (.207) and Parades (.265) they might not produce much more than the current team does.
  13. If Manning and Mize (and maybe Perez, Faedo, Burrows or Funkhouser) remain healthy and continue to pitch well, Det keeps Boyd and Turnbull, some of W Castro, Daz, Rogers etc improve and can contribute in the bigs, and Chris I becomes willing to add bats via FA then perhaps I could see them contending in 2021. The stars would all have to align and imho there is maybe a 5% chance that happens by then.
  14. Who happens to be hitting .321 with an .853 ops this year
  15. On a positive note I thought Soto looked ok. Still potential as a back end of rotation guy. And Miggy continues to barrel up balls. Otherwise, yeah, they are a aaaa team, and a bad one at that. If they played in the college world series they would probably lose.
  16. Any gm that saw Nick in rf today will pass unless they need him as a dh. He is a bad outfielder, imho worse than last year. No contender will trade for him as a position player. And I don't see anyone giving him a 50-mil contract. Looks more and more like he walks and Det gets nothing
  17. Boras is his agent. I can see him declining, and I agree, he'd be a fool
  18. Miggy drove that ball hard to right. Maybe he'll break out with a little more long ball power now
  19. The Tigers are mostly comprised of aaaa talent. Hard to blame Lloyd imho. Their best offensive player this year is arguably Dixon - a guy the Reds let go and they've lost at least 94 games 4 years running.
  20. And that was following a year where Mous hit 38 HR (he has 21 already this year). That's why I think if AA offers Nick the QO he might take it. If AA doesn't want Nick next year he might end up getting traded for maybe a mid level prospect or simply walk in FA for nothing.
  21. It's one year. Their minor league system isn't exactly bustling with bats. At some point Illitch will have to overpay some FAs to get bats when the rotation youngins are ready. I doubt FAs will be looking to come to Detroit. Historically it's taken overpays
  22. Imho Nick has been a positive player in Det and I would like to see him continue. I think there is a chance AA offers him the QO and that Nick takes it. Would be an overpay but maybe he does continue to improve and it would give another year to evaluate if he could be a longtime fixture. JV and Prince come off the books after this year.
  23. I think Nick will get a 3/30 type offer from someone meaning the Tigers will get no comp pick. His D is plain bad. Early last week there was a guy on 3rd with one out and a shallow hit to Nick. He must have assumed the guy would not tag so he softly threw the ball in. Guy did tag. That sort of thing happens too often. His only value is as a DH. Nobody is going to pony up huge dollars for him.
  24. I don't always care for prospect rating. Maybe Erie has Parades working on something - say, hitting to the opposite field. So he works on it and it impacts his stats. Or with pitchers - maybe a guy is trying to develop a change-up and while he is in that process throws it underdeveloped and gets smacked around at times. Fangraphs had Turnbull's value at 40, barely a major leaguer. Gardy saw him and said right away he has very good stuff. Imho it's useful info to go along with the eye test and other factors. Not the end all be all for rating a prospect
