  1. I would say the Lions.....The Tigers have not been that bad....They seem to bubble up to the top every 20-25 years....45, 68, 84, 06.....a lot of Old teams in baseball havent had that success...The Lions...well they havent sniffed success since 1957.... Red Wings would be interesting in this Discussion....a dynasty in the 50's....42 years of frustration....and then pretty much a dynasty again...
  2. Lolich went over 300 seven years in a row.....I think Verlander can handle it, if it comes about....
  3. I think if you took a pole on the subject, the Sox fans would pick the Dunn Deal....The Booing was something else this week end.... K.C. pretty much had to move Greinke..... I'm surprised that DD wasnt nominated......(for Maggs or Inge)
  4. I never heard about the Celtics walking off the court against the Pistons....Had I heard of it, I would have been very critical of them also. Regardless of Pippen, I personally have always been critical of the Pistons....It was a bush league move...Period....Of that group of Pistons, Dumars is the only one I have any regard for...Salley was probably a good guy, but he wasnt really one of the Stars... Mahone and Lambier were thugs and Rodman was nuts....Thomas turned out to be less than a stellar character...Dumars, I still respect... My theory of the situation is that the classless Pistons walked off the floor because they knew the Bulls had ended their dynasty for the foreseeable future...
  5. Darn good question !! I could argue it either way.....I may be wrong about this , but I seem to recall that 4 on 4 with the Russians was just about guaranteed to produce a goal for the Wings.....also I seem to think we scored more "shorties" with the Red Army Wings.....(I loved that nickname)
  6. I was shipped to Viet Nam in September 1968 and didnt even know who won the series until December....I have never seen these games (I have seen highlight reels)...
  7. Ive considered going to spring training several times.....I wouldnt mind a few autographs, but I wouldnt be crazy about it....I would do about anything to talk to Al Kaline for 5 or 10 minutes...I used a 3 finger Al kaline glove to play right field....I used an Al Kaline model 34 inch bat when I made 2 High school all star teams...I was in Viet Nam in 1968 and didnt learn that the Tigers won the World series until December of 68...The desire to play baseball changed my life and I saw Kaline in his rookie year and thats when I decided to play baseball...yup.....I'd love to bump into Mr kaline...
  8. I cannot believe that any one can say that Kitna has a stronger arm than Stafford......I admired Kitna's guts and durability.......but I think Stafford can spot him 20 yards and out throw him......also, kitnas longer throws are rainbows and Staffords are clotheslines....the number one dig on Stafford todaay (by the announcers) was that he was zipping the ball too much and not lofting it a little...
  9. Sometimes stats are like looking at individual brussh strokes and not seeing the painting....Teams used to have four starters not five.....Lolich pitched over 300 innings something like 7 seasons in a row....McLain was the last pitcher to ever win 30 games in a season because no one will ever get enough starts to do it...Verlander gives up five earned runs because of a ball got lost in the lights which on paper makes him look less effective....Lastly, throwing hard doesnt hurt your arm......if you live on a fastball and a changeup, extra pitches wont hurt you....Verlander, Rodney and to some extent Minor get into trouble when they throw too hard because they loose control.....V erlander aand Rodney are both more effective at around 95 or 96 than 98 and 99......Minor's pitches flatten out when he throws 94-95....
  10. actually, I thought the Wings D has been sub par and that in fact, Osgood IS the reason they are 2 and 0.....In addition to his top ten regular season status and his top 8 play off status, I heard something about him currently being the all time best championship series goalie....(I guess he can thank the Pens for pumping up that stat)
  11. I dont know that I am that worried....we ssplit the first 2, then go steal 1 back in Piitssburg....and then its a 3 gaame serries and wee have 2 out of 3 at home ....plus after the week end, most of our injuries should be healed up...(hopefully)....finally, if you match up player for player, maybe the first 4 or 5 cancel out.....but when you get to the 3rd and 4th lines and the third D pairing, can they match with us....I dont think so....The way Filppuka and Hossa started playing the last couple games, they might cancel out Crosby and Malkin....
  12. I couldnt get the link to work but I had been thinking about this for some time....why not sign him to a long term contract which is back loaded for when Lidstrom comes off the books...?? give him a $ 1 Million a year pocket change deal that escalates to serious money when Nick is done....say $10 million a year for 4 or 5 years.....then back down to a lower number for the declining years....?? Holland can work out the numbers....
  13. I've always thought Mac was alright...
  14. actually, for about 29 seconds, on the PK, Helm looked amazingly like Stevie Y....Helm was dancing on his skaayes and the Hawks couldnt take the puck awway....and when they did take it away, he took it back, at least twice......after all this, he almost scored short handed one against the entire Hawks team.....looked aa lot like Stevie Y when Y was a rookie and before various injuries....
