  1. Also, I wished the Tigers had some of these team friendly deals, but I don't remember them ever getting a team friendly deal. An example is if they were to sign Paredes to a 6 year deal, with a couple of option years. They might be able to sign Candelario on the cheap right now, if that's possible.

Yep, that's the importance of building a deep system,  even if those prospects never pan out you can hopefully trade them for a proven commodity before they get exposed.   Hopefully the Tigers will eventually get to that point where they can start doing that.

Not what I meant; my point is that some contracts have much more value than others. The reason the Pirates reached so far in the Archer deal is because of the value of the contract, same with White Sox when they traded Sale, Eaton and Quintana.

Twitter seems to like it more for San Diego.  I believe that Snell is controllable for three more seasons.

That contract is also extremely team friendly. He's playing this season for about 10 million. That's what the Tigers need to get to. Get great players at great prices.

  4. Actually, Patino did get 11 games in the bigs last year. It will be him, Cole Wilcox, Mejia and C Blake Hunt.

Wilcox was a 3rd rounder last year due to salary demands. He's big and throws hard. Tampa will probably flip him in a couple of years.

Blake Snell to the Padres for Francisco Mejia and three prospects, including their #3

Mejia is far from the headliner of the deal for TB. Probably the throw in. Patino is the main get.

    • According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, MLB owners and executives would like the season delayed until May, "even if it means shortening the season to 140 or fewer games."

Here we go again. The stated reasoning is the desire for players and team personnel to be vaccinated for COVID-19, which is a reasonable goal. The thought is that the general population could have access to the vaccine at some point in the spring. However, it's also convenient that by delaying and shortening the season, owners would also be paying the players less money. It's hard to see the players taking much interest in another pay-cut after making just one-third of their salaries this past season. One compromise could be pushing the end of the regular season back along with an increase in scheduled seven-inning doubleheaders, thus ensuring the players their full salaries, but that would also mean pushing the playoffs back to November. There should be more clarity in the weeks ahead, but right now it appears unlikely that spring training will start on time.

There is still a lot of variation in the expectation.  Torkelson could be Willie McCovey or he could be Tony Clark.  Manning could be Justin Verlander or he could be Carlos Rodon.  I think every good year they have in the minors narrows the confidence interval a bit.

Clark was a higher risk, since he was a HS 1st base only, and he didn't have the complete offensive package of Tork. He did have big raw power from both sides.

Have you seen his clips on youtube? Dude has electric stuff. I still say you take the best player your scouts see available. If all things are viewed as equal between a pitcher and bat/field at 3, then I agree, go with the position player. But if Al et al see a pitcher as a notch above any bat, I'd go for the pitcher, and I think Al will as well

I had heard that his stuff was down last year, so he'll have to show much better stuff this year. I wouldn't mind pitching at all, especially at 3, and with the extra pick/money.

    • On his trading record: Asked about a trade from his rearview that he regrets, Dombrowski mentioned dealing former Tigers infield prospect Eugenio Suarez to the Reds for righty Alfredo Simon – a transaction that occurred six years ago today. The thinking was that the Tigers had depth in the infield, and they needed an affordable starter. He also made a point to say that he’s “a big believer in young players.”

Despite being young, talented , former all star and controllable through 2023 it seams 3 million was too much because per Al " you have to dump the salary if it doesn't work out and were looooooong term " what bull****. I have always supported Al but if he sits out this off season with only dirt cheap one year fill ins it will be sad. Just too damn lazy .

    OPS+ 19 lazy?

When he was good, he wasn't that good.

Nothing that I could find online other than some fans and bloggers suggesting we go after him.    I agree though that they definitely should be in the market for him unfortunately there will probably be a lot of teams that will be in on him and the  Tigers haven't had much luck signing Japanese or Korean players.

I have seen a lot of interest from Toronto on him. Evidently he was wooed by Ryu.

I'm having a super spreader Rule V party this year.  Still have some PBR leftover from last year, and some crackers.  Had to throw out the cheese.  Anybody who is coming, just tell Customs and Immigration that it is essential travel, they will wave you through.  When you get here, park at the church around the corner.  They don't like it, but what can they do?  They can't do nothing.

I'd be stuck in Canada forevor! Eh? How do you spell color? Center?

Like Fulmer, he was just back from TJ for the short season and the results were about the same.

It was a facetious statement directed more toward the fact that I'm just about double that age.

I didn't realize Rodon was 28, damn.  When I heard he didn't get tendered I thought he may be worth a flyer but for some reason I thought he was only like 25.  Didn't realize he was that old.

    28 is old? Damn.
