During that June/July '09 stretch when Cabrera was not knocking in runners at a typical rate, Valenti emphatically said Cabrera was "killing this team." At the time, the 1-3 and 7-9 spots were either slightly or severely below league average at getting on base.

Tuned into 97.1 yesterday and was informed that Cabrera is "killing" this team's offense. (And this was BEFORE he failed to knock himself in FOUR times last night.)

Someone who gets on base 40% of the time, averages around 40 HRs, 100 RBI, 100 Rs for every 162 games he plays? Hmm... dunno...

He came back down against the Netherlands -- three Ks, bad swings (and hilarious bunt attempts!) galore.

I love that he did all of this -- including five RUNS and the takeout slide versus Canada -- in Ricciardi's "house." These games are so fun to watch.
