  1. Avisail Garcia, who started the season on the DL due to a heel bruise, has been cleared to resume baseball activities.Detroit Tigers' Avisail Garcia cleared to begin baseball activities after suffering 'significant' heel bruise | MLive.com
  2. With the #14 pick, I select: Avisail Garcia, OF Bats: Right Throws: Right Height: 6'4" Weight: 240 lbs. Born: June 12, 1991 2012 Stats: Detroit - 23 G | 47 AB | 15 H | 0 2B | 0 3B | 0 HR | 3 RBI | 0 SB | .319 BA | .373 OBP | .319 SLG | .692 OPS Erie - 55 G | 215 AB | 67 H | 9 2B | 3 3B | 6 HR | 22 RBI | 9 SB | .312 BA | .345 OBP | .465 SLG | .810 OPS Lakeland - 67 G | 266 AB | 77 H | 8 2B | 5 3B | 8 HR | 36 RBI | 14 SB | .289 BA | .324 OBP | .447 SLG | .771 OPS
  3. Raburn's made a pretty decent career thus far given his limited defensive abilities. I imagine someone will pick him up and give him a shot.
  4. Pretty funny story about his call up this past September with the Blue Jays. He actually pitched a game for Canada in the WBC Qualifier held in Germany, flew home to Canada for a wedding, and found out at the wedding he was getting called up. Because he anticipated flying back to Germany for the tourney finale, all his gear was still over there when he got the call up and he had to borrow a glove and spikes. 5. A decision will have to be made about Valverde. If Leyland determines he can't be trusted and can't use him, rather than have a dead roster spot they could activate Villarreal or Downs.
  6. I agree that he might be tipping his pitches, because hitters seem to be sitting on that changeup. And he hasn't lost his ability in other areas since he put up the 2nd highest K/9 of his career and his walk rate is just marginally higher than last year.
  7. He could've been great if he had picked just one sport and focused all his time and energy into it. He was never fully committed to either baseball or football.
  8. Why would a team send a guy like Putkonen to the AFL? He's already got a bit of big league experience and looks to be a fringe reliever at best, the 11th or 12th man on a staff.
  9. He's got a $10 M option for 2013 that vests if he finishes 45 games, plus a $3M buyout. He's already finished 29, so assuming they use him as a setup guy, that's a $3M buyout for a couple months rental.
  10. Dean Palmer played with the Tigers during Garner's tenure, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was him just due to his links with the Texas teams of the early to mid 90's. He played with a few guys who were suspected (or implicated) steroid users - Pudge, Gonzalez, Palmeiro, Canseco.
  11. Eldred was DFA'd to make room for Young being activated from suspension.
  12. Hate to see his career end like this. Maybe he'll rehab and come back next year just so he can go out on his own terms.
  13. Schlereth has been awful this year, so the move was expected sooner rather than later. Let's see what Weber can do.
  14. Come tourney time, a win is a win, no matter how ugly the game was.
  15. I'm more of a traditionalist, so I don't like it. I'm sure I'll watch the extra game regardless of who is involved, but it waters down the regular season even more in my opinion.
  16. $400K guaranteed for 13 spring training bullpen pitches. How's that for a return on investment?
  17. Hopefully the jekyll and hyde home-away performances come to an end today and UM can pull off a huge road win.
  18. Having grown up with a father who was an alcoholic, I long ago stopped trying to rationalize and make sense of an addict's behaviour. As someone who doesn't drink like myself, it's easy to look at things in a yes/no or black/white manner. For someone like Hamilton, it's not as simple as saying "just don't go to the bar" and all is fine. He will battle this for the rest of his life and no one but himself will truly understand what he goes through on a daily basis.
  19. I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez still isn't 100% come the start of the 2013 season.
  20. Desiree Davila, who trains with the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project based out of Rochester Hills, finished 2nd in the Olympic Marathon Trials yesterday to earn a spot this summer in London. 21. I certainly wish him the best of luck. It's always tough seeing an athlete with a ton of talent unable to stay injury free. The Tigers waited and waited, so you can't fault them for finally letting him go.
  22. With the #13 pick of the 2012 Adopt-A-Tiger Draft, I select: Drew Smyly, LHP DOB: 06/13/1989 H: 6'3" W: 190 2010 2nd Round Draft pick 2011 Statistics: Lakeland (A): 7-3, 2.58 ERA, 1.145 WHIP, 77 K, 21 BB, 8.6 K/9 Erie (AA): 4-3, 1.18 ERA, 1.029 WHIP, 53 K, 15 BB, 10.4 K/9 Drew Smyly Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com Scouting Report: A 2nd round pick in the 2010 Amateur Draft out of Arkansas, Smyly wasted no time in proving that he belonged. He started his season at Advanced-A Lakeland, but ended the season in Double-A Erie sporting a 1.18 ERA, giving up 6 earned runs and walking 15 and striking out 53 hitters in 45 innings pitched. He got it done with a low-90s fastball and advanced command and control of his curveball and change-up. Due to this season’s efforts Smyly was named Tigers’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
