  1. You're right. The article in either the Freep or the News yesterday about Pudge's attitude really underlined that fact.
  2. Indeed. Trading for "prospects" is something you do when you suck. We don't suck anymore. I like this team and I'd like to see them get some more help, but I'm just as willing to see how they gel as the season progresses.
  3. I don't know how many "defining moments" you can have in a season but how we do in this series has to say something about how good this team really is. I'd be happy with a split really.
  4. Thanks for reviving this post. For all the p****** and moaning we do this turnaround is astonishing! And how could you be bored Tim? Derek Jeter and Roger Clemens walked the earth together on the same field at the All-Star game!
  5. I would welcome Zito. He's having one bad season after three good ones. Lot's of players have an anomalous year that you just have to throw out when considering their value and this is probably Zito's year (or half year). His price would probably be higher than we can afford, however. Also, I can't believe all the posts advising us to trade real major leaguers for prospects. I don't think we're so crappy that we need to do that anymore. We're not just rebuilding anymore. The future is now and we should build on it, not dismantal it for some light at the end of the tunnel we may never see. If we trade, we should trade a major leaguer for another that might be a better fit. That said, I'd be glad to ride out the year and just see what happens. This team has exceeded my wildest expectations anyway.
  6. Hope I get to see it here in Idaho. Out West, Eastern teams are always being prempted by the Giants or something like a tractor pull contest.
  7. I'm consistantly impressed by the level of knowledge and passion i see expressed on this site and people with this degree of commitment have earned the right speak without editing themselves. I'm glad you disagree with the tenor of some posts. This site wouldn't be worth it if we all just agreed on everything. It would be like a particularly boring church service. Basically, when we hate this team it's because it means so much to us. It's not all that bad when you think of it.
  8. If the Crime Dog is the HOF is bad how about Dave Kingman? A few years back some writers actually worried out loud that he might have a shot because he had over 400 homers (before the new long ball era). It was if they were obligated by statistics to honor him.
  9. Speaking of TV and for those of us out of the region, does anyone watch the televised games on MLB.COM's links? I'm not sure that it's worth $70 or whatever to see a game on something a bit larger than a postage stamp.
  10. 9-7 and another walk-off homer!
  11. It would be a disappointment. I was kinda hoping for the meaning of life to have a little more meat on it.
  12. You put your best hitters in, You take your worst hitters out; You put your best pitchers in, And you shake it all about. You crush the Cleveland Indians, And you turn yourself around. That's what it's all about! (second verse same as the first)
  13. A lot can change in a week. Last week Thames was on everyone's list. He didn't make your's this week. Do you see place for him?
  14. I have noticed this, Charles, and Randy Smith seems to be a logical culprit. Less logically, there was a 23-year gap between 1945 and 1968. Maybe we'll win in 2007! That might be possible! The least logical possibility is that Randy Smith sent us off to an alternate universe where the Tigers didn't win in 2000 and that everyone on this site needs to wear pyramid Devo hats and chant "Doooooon Weeerrrrrrrt" to get us back. Are we not (wo)men?
  15. Glad he was there! His lighting the torch at the Atlanta Olympics was one of the most moving and incredible things I've ever seen. When he lifted that torch I held my breath and prayed that he wouldn't drop it. He seemed so frail. When it was lit it was so symbolic. Still standing, still proud.
  16. I'm January 27, 1952 so I think Charles did my work for me. Thanks!
  17. I was just a little kid in the 60s but I seem to remember seeing Rick Reichert of the Angels hit one on to the roof in left and Norm Cash on to or over the roof in right. Both happened on ball or bat days because those were the days my dad would make the three hour drive to take me to a game.
  18. Wow. So close yet so far. Doesn't even qualify as a "cup of coffee," I guess. My father-in-law has a friend who's the Coor's distributor in Southern Idaho. He was a pitcher and his major league batting average is 1.000. One single in one at bat for the Cubs a long time ago. Now maybe that one qualifies as a glass of beer?
  19. Wish Levine could have these three-up-three-down innings when the game is really on the line.
  20. If Thames ends up hitting 45 to 50 homers will DD still be saying, in effect, "But we have Alex Sanchez!" If Thames ends up being Cecil Fielder and we let him go....Then again, he could be like Ron Kittle.
  21. I got my sticker of the logo from Biff yesterday and it's on the back window of my Grand Caravan attracting chicks like I was in beer commercial or something...or not. Hey, I like it anyway.
  22. i like your style! Drop some acid and put the movie Videodrome in the VCR. You'll get the same effect.
  23. Glad I clicked on that link before I got out the razor blades and crawled into the tub.
