I'd say the campaigns would need a good week to 10 days to sort out the Ryan Effect on the race but it wouldn't surprise me if they drum up some excuse for him to graciously back out without it looking like a panic move. He's becoming the Tim McCarver of Vice Presidents....

You can find a crank academic to take any position on anything, but the reality is that denying that short term government spending boosts GDP and drives employment is like climate change denial. I get really tired of people who feel the need to deny 100 years of well established and validated research because it doesn't fit their ideology. I wonder how they would feel if next time they went to a doctor he told them he could only bleed them or use leaches since that's the level of scholarly progress that matches their mindset.

That's interesting. Personally, I find the stupidity of people who believe that GDP is meaningful and not just an irrelevant, made-up metric that doesn't actually measure anything worthwhile as it relates to the health of our economy, to be very annoying. In fact, I'd equate it to a person going to the doctor and being told that they were going to use a new tool called a thingamajiggy, to cure their ailment. Because that's what GDP is, a figment of your imagination.

Ha - If that is what Joe thinks he needs to reconsider I'd say. The old may get more leeway in any number of places but still not so much in politics.
