It's symbolic for some. People need this, and will eat it up. For someone who works within one of the agencies theres much biggers things that I'd love to make the headlines but they won't for too many reasons. It's nice, but some are acting like this really matters in some way or another. It doesn't. Not that it shouldn't take away from the closure it can give some in a symbolic sort of way. PR has been a mainstay for governments since the beginning of time, I'll just say that.

At this point, so what? Dr. Frankenstein finally kills his monster.
If the loved ones of the people who died in the 9/11 attacks find comfort in this, then I am happy for them. If people choose to celebrate this, I will not chastise them. I do not feel any more "free" because of it though. I do not feel this changes the culture of endless war in our world. I wish that killing this one person would bring us closer to peace, but it will not do anything to accomplish that. In fact, it will make things worse.TheCaptain: Is it just me or does one of Fielder's sons look like Miguel Cabrera?

Bert, that was written after about 40 seconds of him talking. I later wrote that the speech got better as it went on but at the point I wrote that, those were my feelings. And yes I will stand by my initial reaction to the speech at that point. He made it sound like it wasn't a top priority to get him until Leon Panetta got there.

When I first heard that there would be a dramatic announcement, I assumed it would be something awful like an imminent terrorist threat of monumental proportions. It didn't occur to me that it might be something good. So, when I heard the news, it was a relief. I think the death is largely symbolic as he was apparently ill and dying anyway and this isn't going to stop terrorism or even slow it down much. However, it's a very important symbol and something that the whole country can celebrate. We haven't had that in a long long time.

"They can use both (old- and new-school statistics)," Cabrera said. "In 2012, we've got to take advantage of all that.

But tonight, I say we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

That would make sense - I had it backwards... the sitting president has four to eight years of realizing what the predecessor went through

I'm not a big fan of GWB, but I am glad we smoked him out (him being osama)
Sounds like the 'compound' was kind of a suburb --- like a gated communityLast edited by Titus Tiger; 05-02-2011 at 12:23 AM.

Can we just ****ing drink a few beers, shoot some fireworks off and revel in the moment for at least 4 or 5 hours without any politics?

I woke up at a campsite just outside of Gettysburg this morning. i was camping with ROMAD Jr's cub scout pack. We toured Little Round Top and Devils Den and I tried to impart to him the importance of what we were looking at. He didn't quite get it but, he and I had a few interesting chats about the importance of the battle. Strange to have had that experience just today.
