Behavior Issues
If the recent behavior issues due not stop here in the Political Discussions forum, I will be shutting it down.
We've always tended to "look the other way" in regards to the political forum, but the personal attacks and insults on members posting in this forum has gotten out of control. It's to the point that I don't wish to be bothered with this type of discussion much longer.
So if you enjoy discussing politics, leave out the personal attacks on each other and keep the discussion going.

Its kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. No doubt personal attacks will continue. However, if the political forum is removed, political discussions and personal attacks will just poison the other forums.

So what you're saying is that it's impossible to carry on a political discussion without attacking someone personally. Do you honestly believe that?

Talk politics is a no-no to me. Politics should be taken personally, hence, the personal attacks happen. Maybe not on purpose, but then it steamrolls.
Just my thoughts.
I stay out of the political discussion, most of the time.

I think that people are more likely to interpret the probative nature of a political discussion to be personal. Some for instance would consider your above question wherein you challenge the veracity of the previous poster to be a personal attack in and of itself.
I also think that the political discussion leads to rhetorical techniques that others consider less than fair, and the challenging of those techniques are interpreted as personal attacks as well.
Perhaps the term "personal attack" needs to be more specifically delineated for purposes of defining prohibited behavior.
I for one am not bothered by attacks about me or my positions or my reasonings. I only get really off put by attacks that inappropriately smear my wife and children. I also think I can take a jibe and retort accordingly with the best of them ... and I think I can back off and tone it down when one suggests I've gone too far.
Finally, I often feel most filial with those I disagree with the most. In other words, Couga, Bill, Pfife and Buddha are pains in the arse, but they are my pains in the arse.

My brother used to work on the Senate staff in Lansing (he's a Democrat, by the way), and he told me one time the most frustrating thing about working there was that people "don't get that the party thing isn't personal."
I don't understand why that's hard to understand.
I do think, though, that sometimes when people who are not the primary participants read the threads, they may seem nastier than they really are. I personally like just about everyone on the political board, although there are a few I suppose I don't care for all that much, but this has virtually no correlation at all to where people fall on the political spectrum.

And, in the "it's a small world" comment of the day: I used to work with OMF's brother in Lansing...

Yeah. We figured it out awhile back. I don't remember how. I think he mentioned something about it, or I mentioned who I used to work for and then it went from there.
Surprise, surprise, but the two of them look alike. However, I can't imagine their politics are too similar considering who we were working for at the time.

Bravo, my worthy foe. And OMF, too. I agree 100 percent.
I don't mean anything personally on here, and I don't take anything personally.
But yes, the standards could stand to be raised in here. The way I see it, you can call my ideas and viewpoints anything you want, but when they are directed at me specifically, I think that crosses the line. To me, "Your idea is extremely stupid" is fine, whereas "you are extremely stupid" is over the line. I think that despite all the debate on here, there's ony a few people who regularly cross the line. But, IMHO, that's wheere the line should be drawn. Questioing people's personal lives should be strictly prohibited.

That would have been either Sen. Pollack or Sen. Wheeler-Smith. After Sen. Pollack left the Senate, she became a publisher and I did some writing for her. Weird, eh?

I worked with Lana. My grandparents were friends with her, so I got an internship for the summer. Alma was still working there and wasn't "Senator Wheeler-Smith" at that point. I didn't work that often with Gus, but did for a few weeks.
I was mostly the office cut up. He was actually doing real work.
As for the meaning of this thread, I've pretty much quit the political forum, so maybe that will quiet things down a bit?

Yes. While some poster will be able to remain civil, there will always be posters that will not abide by the rules. Outlawed behavior will stop for a shot time period and then begin again.

So we need to keep reminding people then.
Don't rely on others doing so, everyone does it when they feel people are going too far. Easy.
And can we keep this stickied up the top for a long while as well btw to remind ourselves about it whenever we come here?

So Shabba, TC, OMF, DJ and a few others of us on the right had our weekly 'how to fight BST's earth talk, Couga's Hugo threads, address billms return when we're already outnumbered' meeting. It started out with the usual, doing the pledge of allegiance and confirming with each other just how patriotic we are.
This thread came up and we decided we needed to have a strategic position should anything happen to this forum. While not original, we decided to go with the proven methodology, blame the opposite side.
The problem was, especially with us being outnumbered, is if we go for the whole left, we could be in trouble. In the end, we all agreed with OMF that we should just target one person on the left...but who?
Buddha - logical choice with him being a liberal. But he's just to smart as he already mentioned he's going to take a reprieve from this forum, basically eliminates him.
Couga - We already go after his Hugo threads, we even have some support on the left with these. But he's a recent transplant to the lakeland area. If we're all regulated to the sports section of this site he'll already be able to control the minor league threads due to his mere presence in our minors starting point. He's a candidate, but we can't underestimate him.
BST - After all he's a foreigner. But that could work for him. With us being republicans we tend to only think like a true American should. As a result, those crazy thoughts and tendencies of people from other countries confuse and scare us. He's a candidate too, but we might need to get a consultant involved if we go after him.
dt35456884 - His name pretty much eliminates him. His avatar helps our cause (England's flag front and center :-o ) but as we'll need to market this to all the site, we'll have a tough time arguing to people that dt with a bunch of numbers was responsible. It might confuse others as well, such as is there only one dt bunch-of-numbers, is the one i'm reading right now that one with all those numbers...etc.
billms - another logical choice as he just came back to the game. But many would argue trouble was already here and there is no difference with him here.
DF - He's got too much access to the press and we already know how liberals will use it !
So after much deliberation, the winner was determined to be....
Pfife!
He's got the small easy name to say and type. Some might argue that while he's a self proclaimed liberal, he has given our side the benefit of the doubt at times. For example, most recently in the racist button thread, he actually asked for more detail on a claim by the right. But that will be his downfall, he's weak!
So while it was a tough choice and no purely logical choice, the honor fell to you pfife.... so you better watch out!

Not my fault you're the one that went into writing. It seemed like the natural fit and you're stuck with it...deal with it!

oh crap.... I may need before and after pictures of your head before deciding if we should pursue our case against you.
Hopefully it never gets to that though!

Damn! I don't have a home. Obviously not on the left, but, shocking to Couga and some others, I don't have a home with the Republicans either.
But that's fine, I've always maintained I'm a moderate!

You're the only one with a laptop. What do you want us to do, write?

Well, I can't make sense of hardly anything Shabba says, and TigerCap just sits there holding up cartoons! What the **** am I supposed to write for that?

Man, I organised it but none of you damned liberals turned up. What, is it too much to ask we meet at my place once in a while?
Btw, that was very funny Ewswieghshes (I can never remember how the spell it...)

I wonder if it was due to your bizarro English you seem to talk and write, you might have confused them.
:-)
