I feel we can only save that forum with the following arrangement:
BillMS must kiss Shabba. On the lips.
Failing that, we'll have to stick to safe topics like sex and religion.

OK, how about people step back and stop trying to evade the censor by using asterisks in place of curse words? If nothing else, it's getting hard to read posts that are full of them.

I haven't read all the posts in all the threads, especially with it being a weekend, but this is a practice that's frowned upon. It's one of those things that's acceptable once in a while but don't do it a lot.

Yeah, if you want to say ****, write ****, instead of f***. You know, because that asterisk ****'s ****ed up.

Well, I guess I could pretend that four asterisks stand for d-i-e-t aka "die" with a "t."

I find that the only time I use the asterisks when I am not -- in my own mind at least -- being such an overt smart aleck is with the n-word, which I do not believe the censor corrects for. Since we're on the topic, I wish it would. I also wish that in the dawn of my 40th year on the planet that I didn't have to say something as childish as n-word.

The forum has been very civil even in the political thread. Still, I almost avoid that area as it has become so divisional and at times obtuse in defending your own party. The worst has come out in some fine posters and I see no let up. We all have opinions based on what we read and hear, yet we continue to use the terms "hate and lies". I know some find it fun, I see it as diminishing your character. (Off Soapbox)

Growing up in the South, that terminology was common place. The alternatives were Coloreds, my Dad used Negras, Negroes and as of late Blacks. I'm just going to stick with Americans.

Back in the 60's, my dad used "negro". He said whenever someone said "colored", he'd think "which color? Blue?".

I never thought I'd see the day here that a female presidential candidate would be referred to as the C-word. Even if it's just quoting a comedic blog. That day has come.
Unbelievable.

Tbf it was quoted and it's not unreasonable to suggest that it's a word that you'd expect to see in the filters. It's not as if people don't use terms which are filtered knowing perfectly well that they're filtered.

Is there any way the first sentence of that post can be changed? If anything the asterisks make it even more offensive.

I'll change it.
BTW, I did think it would be filtered. When I saw that it wasn't, I decided to let it be, though. That was probably a mistake.

This thread has done nothing to improve conditions in the political forum. We have posters calling each other idiots, etc, etc, its really annoying. Huey was right when he said the politcal forum brings out the worst in good posters. Also posters think they have to have the last post on a particular debate in order to feel that they "won".

I disagree to a great extent.
Although there is the odd moment when I think people clearly need to remember it - and thank you for pointing that out earlier today in one thread - and occasionaly flares which get out of hand, in general the forum is *very* busy right now. In about February I imagine that a lot of the current interest will go away (maybe by mid-November, who knows...) and I think we'll find a significant improvement.
Until then I think we need to make sure we keep pointing stuff out a bit more regularly, no matter who might be the offender.

Agreed. The issue doesn't involve just one poster its a lot of them. Some of them very respected in the motown community.

Some threads that have been created in the political forum of late have not just crossed the line, but are on the verge of really defaming this entire site. Some have been removed, and hopefully the one suggesting McCain is a friend of NAMBLA disappears soon too. I really don't know what some people are hoping to accomplish by posting these threads. If they are supposed to be jokes - they aren't funny. Some of the deleted thread titles made BF's threads look innocuous.
We have 9 days left until the election. Maybe we should all take a breath and before we start a thread - look at the title and ask if that's going to produce a google hit that will embarrass the entire site and community, and if the answer is yes, maybe re-think posting it, or maybe re-wording it.

MotownSports isn't even a sports site right now. If you look at the "new posts" as of 11:57 p.m., all but two of the 17 threads are politically related. What's worse is that most of them, to me, are just pure garbage.
I've essentially stopped using the "new posts" function and just sift over to the Tigers and Red Wings forums, staying exclusively in those areas. I am abstaining from posting in any political threads until December.

This is solely due to the poster Blue posting brief blurbs, often only one word, to try to clog the board with BF postings by bringing them all to the top at once. Infantile as can be, no doubt! after hsi other tactic of starting stupid threads was turned back he jumped onto this the past little while.

Looks like blue choosing to end his MTS days like the final scene in Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. I hate when people create childish drama to bring out the ban stick on themselves. It never made much sense to me at all.

Blue is a fine poster who did what he did to make a valid point.
No one would be talking about "forum cluttering" if there was one thread about "Obama being a Muslim" rather than 22.
