Quote:

You can bet the Orlando Magic will be better prepared Friday for the Detroit Pistons than they were Tuesday. The Magic (4-1) are itching for some revenge after being embarrassed in Detroit Tuesday night by the Pistons, who were playing without two starters and still managed to manhandle the Magic.
"It was one of our worst games since I've been in Orlando," said coach Stan Van Gundy, now in his third season. The Magic lost, 85-80.
The Pistons have been the Magic's nemesis for the past several years, winning 20 of the 25 regular season games against them. They also knocked the Magic out of the playoffs three times in franchise history.
"We'll play better next time," said center Dwight Howard.
The Pistons still are likely to be without Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, and the Magic will be without Rashard Lewis (suspension) and possibly Vince Carter (sprained ankle).
The Magic have played well in four of their five games this season, looking every bit the championship contender. It was only against the Pistons Tuesday when they looked awful. And that's not likely to happen again Friday.
MAGIC 122, SUNS 100: The Magic shot 52.3 percent from the field and had six players score in double-figures, winning easily against the previously unbeaten Suns. Dwight Howard, despite early foul trouble, led the Magic with 25 points and six rebounds. Ryan Anderson had 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Suns got 25 points from Amar'e Stoudemire, but they never were close in the second half.

Pistons rookie Jonas Jerebko is keeping people up late in his native Sweden.
Jerebko started his first two games in the NBA this week and his family and friends back in Sweden watched. Never mind that the games begin in the middle of the night.
"Give them credit, they're staying up late," said Jerebko, a second-round draft pick who has surprised the team with his play.
Jerebko got the starts after Tayshaun Prince came down with a back injury.
"It's six hours ahead (so it's early in the morning in Sweden) but everybody stayed up," said Jerebko, who continues to impress with his hustle and basketball know-how.
There weren't any more nerves than usual, even though Jerebko found himself in the starting lineup.
"After the tip-off I was good," Jerebko said. "Maybe a minute before the game when they call your name (there were nerves). Coach told me after I got to the gym that I was starting and just treat it like a regular game and get ready."
RAPTORS, 110, PISTONS 99: Toronto outscored the Pistons 44-28 in the second quarter, turning the complexion of the game around. That enabled the Raptors to take a 68-56 lead into halftime, but the Pistons rallied in the fourth quarter, and took a 91-90 lead on Will Bynum's lay-up with eight minutes to play. But the Raptors recovered and cruised down the stretch. Toronto was 36-of-47 from the foul line, while the Pistons only shot 25 free throws (making 17).
Ben Gordon had 30 points and Charlie Villanueva and Will Bynum scored 16 points each for Detroit. Rodney Stuckey had 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Adonal Foyle is still in the league? I saw him play at Iowa when he was at Colgate (if my memory doesn't fade me that was the school). We saw him at the airport as well on our way out. He was the only player on the team studying while waiting for their flight. He must've blocked about 10 shots during that holiday tournament weekend.
It's the only time I've ever been to Iowa.

Well, that's about 14 jump shots we won't have to worry about defending tonight.

As much as we own the Magic, I have a feeling we get destroyed tonight.

People should start announcing when he actually is playing, it would save them some time.
As Barkley calls him, "Half man - Half a season"

Get rid of Wilcox now, he's very bad. In combination with Kwame it's double trouble, two of the lowest bb iq players in the league on the floor together. Maxiel really must have done something bad or Dumars is working out a trade and he's filler.

Quite possibly the worst frontcourt play of any game in the history of the NBA (Waltonism)

Villanueva is incredibly slow. I know he ahs to do something extremly well to avg. double figures every year of his career, but I have yet to see what he does well.
Quickess for a big man? Nope
Outside shot? Avg, streaky
Ups? Haven't seen him do anything special
Post game? avg, I think

Daye's getting some good minutes out there, looking solid. No one else on the team besides Stuckey is though, and Stuckey picked up too many dumb fouls.

He's been disappointing so far this year. I was actually pretty excited to watch him this year.
Gordon is still getting to the line though, and Stuckey seems to be shooting well. Did have a nice pass for an assist too.
edit: crap the stream just got shut down i think

Yes, very dissapointed in him so far. Terrible defender, and he looks awkward to boot.

You really have to be concerned about the defense. It's a very average paced game (91) and they are still giving up a ton of points.

It seems like every game we have one bad quarter when it comes to our defense. Gave up 40 in the first today, and given up 30 in over a quarter and a half since.

Glad to see that they're still fighting.... At least you can't question their heart... at least not at this point in the season.

Signs of life from from Charlie V., JJ and Daye. I'd rather see the Pistons continue to work them into the offense.

The team has potential...it'll be nice to get Prince back into the line-up. Certainly would help on the defensive end.
Last couple of games there was one quarter where we just get lit up and seem to play no defense. Hopefully we can correct that.

When I turned on ESPN gamecenter at the beginning of the second half they had him at 1/11. But the gamecenter was doing crazy things with reporting plays and giving out stats that it most likely could have been wrong.

Do you think this team may be the worst in NBA history at FT shooting?
I was thinking that the other night......

It's really hard to make head or tails out of this team without Rip or Prince playing. Let's face it. It's a bad team that would be lucky to win 30 games over 82 games without those guys. But that said, it was nice to see Charlie V. heat up down the stretch and see some of the young guys contribute on occasions tonight.
This frontcourt is pretty awful offensively. I know I keep saying that, but it can't even help itself when it gets to the charity stripe. I think there was a time the Pistons missed 5 or 6 straight free throws in that second half when they were trying to cut the gap to 8 or something like that. They start establishing that as the new margin and maybe they would've had a better shot down the stretch. It was nice seeing them cut the lead to six, but you knew everything still had to go their way to win that game. It didn't and they lost.

This was the first game I was able to watch on TV this season. There was a point that the only player I recognized on the court was Maxiell. That, and the poor play, reminded me of the "Teal Era". They just dont seem to gel as a team in my opinion. Hopefully things will get better over time.

Well, I'm not sure about that based on last night, Jerebko/Daye made a good combo. They don't seem to get lost most of the game either, Jerebko especially is an agitator on defense.

Well, until the NBA only counts three quarters, it was bad defense. Giving up 110 is never good defense.

At least Sheed's gone...up to his old tricks in boston. in 21 min/game he's averaging 6 3's. Boston will soon tire of him.

Just curious, but Why? That's his job. I don't think he is just being rougue. In Detroit the last few years we did not have anyone able to stretch the D other than our PG, but he needed a Pick-n-pop partner when he was not penetrating. We could have based a little more O around his post game, but I doubt Sheed flat-out rejected a post play called for him.
Sheed jacking 3's was more successful IMO, than a lot of people realize.

just for what I saw last night..
first quarter, Orlando could not miss a shot..period..good coverage, bad coverage, they could not miss..how many 3s did they have? looked like the Stones a couple years back..I think they might of missed 1 Ft in the 1st.
second - trying to catch up, but Orlando now misses a couple shots, but we just can't get under double digits..we start missing the easy pts, i.e techs, fts..
third - we start the push that I was expecting, but Orlando just keeps making shots at the last second..ugh
4th - Charlie V heats up the Amway Arena, fans can't believe it..I was yelling to give the ball every time to Charlie..he finally missed a 3 and cooled down, but we did get within single digits..
I have never heard so many traveling calls last night!!! wtf
with all that Orlando did in the first, we lost on the FT line..period..UGH..CAN WE MAKE SOME FT'S????????? even Howard was hitting all of them
JJ Reddick is still a punk
