I assure you the majority of Canucks fans feel 10x worse right now that Wings fans because: a) they've never won a Cup; and b) their team is supposed to be in their prime right now. However, I don't think the Canucks are quite dead. On their deathbed though.

Asham was suspended 4 games, and Neal for one.
It's odd to see so many penalties for Pitt, and not one for Matt Cooke. Wow.This spot, and a place in my heart, is reserved for TC.

Flyers come from behind to lead 3-2 late in the 1st. On just 10 shots on Fleury. The Pens might as well pull their goalie and play with an extra attacker.

Just curious... what's the current record number of goals for a playoff series in the NHL?

Wow. I just did a quick tally and there have been 39 goals in this series so far. I don't know if that's impressive or pathetic. :)

Bobrovsky came in to replace Byrzgalov after he gave up 5 goals on 18 shots. Bobrovsky has given up 4 goals on 11 shots. 9-3 Penguins late in the second period. Yikes

The goaltending in the Phi/Pit series is like my Sunday night pickup games. Neither team deserves to advance to the next round.

Vancouver trailing 1-0 after 1, having lost 1-0 on Sunday. The Canucks couldn't score in LA if they went on a date with Kim Kardashian.

With Cory Schneider getting the nod not only for Game 3 as an attempted momentum-changer but also Game 4, the airwaves and newspapers here are filled with speculation that Luongo has played his last game in a Canucks uniform. 33 years old, $5.5mm cap hit (which isn't bad) but several more years left on his contract. Maybe the Leafs or Devils would take that contract off the Canucks' hands. Allowing them to sign Schneider who is 26 and a free agent this summer.

Wow. Pittsburgh really exploded after I signed off last night. There should probably be a special wall of shame 'award' for the goaltending in this series.

Poor Coyotes. More late-game heroics from the Hawks. Chicago ties it 2-2 with 1:33 to go in regulation.

Phoenix just cannot close these games out. Chicago scores a tying goal with less than 1:30 left in the third period. They are headed to OT once again.
New Jersey beat Florida 4-0 and Washington beat Boston 2-1. Both of those series are tied up at two games apiece.

Phoenix wins! They have a 3-1 series lead. Not a good goal given up by Crawford.

Down 3-1 in their series are: Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Vancouver. The '08, '09, and '10 Cup champs and the '11 Game 7 losing Cup finalist.

First team eliminated from the playoffs.....

Let's say Phoenix, LA and Philly all close out their series. And the 2-2 series tip to Florida, Ottawa and Washington. That's a lot of ifs. Especially the Ottawa series. But IF that did happen, the NHL quarter-finals would be comprised of 7 teams who have never won a Stanley Cup and 1 team whose last Cup was in 1975. Couldn't get much more parity than that.

Hope you're not one of those hockey fans who says it ain't mean a thing if you don't get the ring. Of course I wanted a Stanley Cup. But 4 between 1997-2008, 6 Cup finals between 1995 and 2009, and a bucketfull of President's Trophies is a lifetime's worth for fans of most teams. Hockey is entertainment. So yeah, the home winning streak did mean something to me, it was fun to watch. And I'm sure it was meaningful to the season ticket holders who invest big in regular season tickets and feel they got their money's worth. Disappointing end to the season, no question, but just as in baseball I enjoy no-hitters and batting championships and Cy Youngs by Tigers, in hockey I can enjoy a season even if it doesn't end with the Wings hoisting the Cup.

I'm torn.
I don't like the Penguins and would have loved to see them eliminated last night....
BUT, I don't really care about the Flyers and can't help but think it would be satisfying to see them now collapse after going ahead 3-0. With their lack of goaltending, I could see it happen...This spot, and a place in my heart, is reserved for TC.

Yeah, you're right, they should've given up on a few of those games. They would've won the Cup if Lidstrom and Z hadn't made that incredible pass and Datsyuk scored with 5 seconds left. It obviously tired them out. Its clear the Wings management had a meeting and decided their goal this season was to break the home winning streak and say to heck with winning the Cup.
On a serious note, I enjoyed the streak. It made an otherwise ho hum regular season worth watching. That the Wings have stayed this good for this long in the cap era has been amazing. It seems like this team was written off after the end of the 99 season and after 2002. If they're able to retool and get another cup run, it would be amazing. If not, I'm still watching and enjoying the talent that we have.
