It's not even for a decent player's stick...Imagine if that was a Lidstrom stick!

One of the guys fighting was Mike Vallely, a pro skater. The stick was supposed to be for his daughter, another guy tried to take it, and he freaked out.

That guy in the flannel shirt - he is responsible for the whole thing. He didn't even have his hands on the stick at first and he comes in and starts hitting people. Bastard. If Nedermayer knew it would have been that bad, I'm sure he just would have handed out three or four sticks.

Ya, that was Vallely. He's always been a punch first, ask questions later type of guy. He flipped out when the guy tried to take the stick away from his daughter.

Steve Schrader's weekly awards (11-22) | freep.com | Detroit Free Press)
The "Pick Up Sticks" award
To Scott Niedermayer, who inadvertently created a YouTube moment the other night when -- trying to be a nice guy -- he flipped his stick over the glass to a kid after a Ducks game, but instead set off a brawl among so-called adult fans fighting over it. Learn some manners, people. The proper way to handle Niedermayer's stick when he loses it is to politely hand it back to him. Just ask Shawn Burr.

It's funny because I consider the 95 and the 97 Finals to be mirror images of each other. We did to Philly what NJ did to us.

That was a grin and a half. A good fight or melee in the stands almost always trumps fisticuffs on ice. The sad thing this wasn't even a decent fight. Amateurs! Very Califonia-esque.
