Burnaby Joe to retire tomorrow. One Avs player I could never hate. I hope he still comes out to his Vancouver hometown next February to attend the Olympics in some fashion.
Good guy. I never really hated him when he was on the Avs. I always had a running debate with someone whether the Wings fans would give him a standing O if he did something like score his 500th goal at JLA. I think they would. He didn't.
I'm in the same boat, and really never hated the guy. He really is the only guy to play on the Av's that I don't/didn't hate that I can think of off the top of my head.

He retires as one of the greatest players in NHL history. I agree it would be nice to see him with Canada in some capacity.
I'll ask the question...So who was the better 19?
I think Yzerman was, by a bit. But I can see why Avs think of highly of Sakic as Wings fans do of Yzerman. I think Yzerman-Sakic are closer to each other's level than they were to that of Gretzky or Lemieux, both of whom were clearly better than Yzerman-Sakic.
Even with my hate for the Avs, you won't get any bashing of Sakic from me either. He was the Avs version of Stevey, the heart and soul of the team. First ballot HOF for sure.
Joe Sakic was all class. Honestly, one of my favorite non-Wings and truly one of the best to ever lace them up. A sad day to see him retire, but it was time.
Congratulations to Joe Sakic on an incredible hall of fame career, and good luck in his future endeavors.

One of the best players I ever watch the guy, and he was hard to root against.
It says a lot about Sakic that the posters here at this board have warm memories of him.
