So Bosh/Wade to MIA, Joe Johnson stays in ATL, Amare to NYY and all the LeBron talks now are Cleveland with a few NY rumors. man, did Chicago strike out or what. My roommate who is a Bulls fan was telling me Joe Johnson was a lock to Chi and that LeBron was going to go there too and Bosh in a sign and trade. man, they can't feel too good right now.

So...what would their starting line-up look like?

    C - Amar'e
    PF - Anthony
    SF - James
SG - McGrady (or would he have to be dealt?)
    PG - ? (Possibly Ridnour per.. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archiv...r_in_new_york/)

And 'melo would have to wait a year, unless they did some sort of sign and trade with Lee, because the Nuggets could get better in a trade then what the Knicks wouldnhave to offer

Looks about right, but put James at the PF and Melo at SF. They would have to renounce the rights they have to McGrady, but I bet he would sign for the Vets minimum if they couldn't find anyone else.

Couldn't they offer some package of Lee (sign and trade) and Gallinari? (I know very little about NBA trades and how they effect salary cap so pardon my ignorance)

That team wouldn't win jack in the playoffs. You're going to put Amare on Dwight Howard in the playoffs? That's just asking for trouble.

James - Anthony doesn't make any sense to me. They're too similar. It might work internationally, but it's not going to in the NBA. James and Amar'e can win together if they play Amar'e at the 4 and got a big rebounding, defensive brusier in the middle to complement him. I don't know who is out there, but that's the mold I'd be going for as opposed to the Madison Square Garden Globetrotters.

I agree on all accounts, that is why I was asking what their line-up would look like...it didn't make sense to me.

You make it sound like other teams are overflowing with players to guard Howard. Boston is best equipped to do so and he still went for 22 and 11 on them this year.

Some would argue the best way to take out Howard is to make him play defense. When the opposing team doesn't have an offensive minded center, Howard is allowed to roam a bit and alter/block more shots. He couldn't do that with Amare. Plus, Howard has been prone to foul trouble and Amare could take it to him and try to get a few quick ones on him.

I also find it funny you worry about who would guard Howard, but you make no mention of who would guard Amare, James, or Anthony. While I don't pretend Howard is easy to defend, I know if I was a coach I would much rather try to defend him rather than the three headed monster the Knicks could put on the floor.

Who's going to guard Dwight Howard? WHO CARES! Who is going to guard LeBron? No one. Who is going to guard Carmelo Anthony? rashard Lewis? Ha!

Put 3 7 foot gumps out there to throw 18 fouls on Howard. He can't shoot free throws. Then put Stoudamire at the other end running a pick and roll and make Howard defend, that will put 3 or 4 fouls on him quick.

all that is a pipe dream for the Knicks, but it could happen. Very doubtful though. Anthony is more likely than James, with someone like Tony Parker, Monta Ellis or Raymond Felton coming to run the point in a sign-and-trade for Lee.

Chad Ochocinco's Twitter is saying that LeBron is in a "empire state of mind wink wink".

But I dont buy it. He's flying down to Miami to dine with Wade and Bosh. The Dream Team is on.

Can Boozer Deliver LeBron? - TrueHoop Blog - ESPN

    Can Boozer Deliver LeBron?

There is a growing belief among both sources and rival executives that LeBron James is strongly considering joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.

That news has sent GMs from the Cavs, Bulls and Nets scrambling to come up with a last ditch effort to convince LeBron to reconsider. Their plan, according to sources, involves Carlos Boozer.

Sources said that on Wednesday, the Bulls, Cavs and Heat all intensified negotiations with Boozer, hoping that landing the 28-year-old power forward could entice LeBron.

The Bulls and Nets would still have max cap room to sign LeBron if they can get Boozer to agree to a deal for something around 5 years, $80 million.

The Cavs do not have cap space and cannot sign Boozer straight out. However, the team has called the Jazz about potentially doing a sign-and-trade with Boozer.

Boozer has played the last five years for the Utah Jazz. He averaged 19.2 ppg and 11.2 rpg for the Jazz last season. Boozer began his career in Cleveland and remains friendly with LeBron.

The Knicks are still holding out hope that LeBron will be persuaded by their signing of Amare Stoudemire and go to New York as well.

Since we are all becoming a bit tired of the attention whore free agents. I thought this was a nice read.

Durant just does it different, in a good way - CBSSports.com
Durant just does it different, in a good way

They finished one and two in the MVP voting last season. They finished one and two in scoring. They’re two of the game’s biggest stars, captains of their teams and the faces of their franchises. Yet, I don’t know if Kevin Durant and LeBron James could really be much more different.

One plans a one-hour TV special to tell people where he's going. The other quietly announces it on Twitter . Guess which one did which.

No lights. No cameras. No fanfare. Just a simple, humble announcement and a thank you. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the way LeBron is going about this, but there’s certainly something refreshing in the way KD did.

I even love the fact that Durant had a typo in his tweet. It was genuine and we know it came from him. Some PR specialist didn’t type that for him. He wrote it himself, and wrote it from the heart. Later, Durant followed up with this tweet :

First time i cried n a while..Seat Pleasant we #outchea , RIp Chucky, we doin wat we dreamed about..i swear i love all my bros!! yessir!!!

Seat Pleasant, Md. is his hometown. Chucky is for his AAU coach Charles Craig who was killed at the age of 35, which is the reason KD wears No. 35. Talk about keeping it all in perspective.

And not only that, but KD pledged his commitment to the Thunder by not insisting on a fourth-year opt-out clause. Most players take the opt-out. Heck, that’s what LeBron is using right now to play this free agency game. But Durant felt compelled to show loyalty to the Thunder because they showed it to him when they arrived on his door a minute after the negotiation period began.

Read that again. Durant chose not to put a clause in his contract that would likely have made him more money down the road, because he wanted to show appreciation to his franchise. Are we still talking about professional sports here? I mean, this is almost unprecedented. But that’s the thing, KD is different .

This is the guy that chose Nike over Adidas even though Adidas offered more money because he’d always worn Nike’s growing up and he said they just fit better. We’re talking about a guy that used to work the scorer’s table at UT during intramural games . We’re talking about a guy that attends his team’s draft in New York City just to show support. We talking about a guy that watches from the bench at summer league. Summer. League. Yesterday, OKC capped a 10-2 run to take the lead against Charlotte. The first off the bench giving high fives? Kevin Durant. We're talking about that kind of guy.

I just can’t help but find it slightly ironic that on a day LeBron tries to grab everyone’s attention with a one-hour television special , Kevin Durant completely upstages him by humbly announcing his extension with a typo on Twitter. Similar ability, different in personality I suppose.

You can try your darndest to win folks over with brilliant marketing and PR, but most times, genuine just wins out. KD didn’t expect this kind of reaction. It’s just who he is. And here’s to hoping, for the sake of sports fans everywhere that are tired of egos and greed, that KD never changes.

Jermaine O'Neal to sign with Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets or Boston Celtics - ESPN

    O'Neal's faves: Mavs, Nuggets, Celtics

Free-agent center Jermaine O'Neal said Wednesday that he expects to sign with one of the three following teams in coming days: Dallas, Denver or Boston.

"Those are my favorites," O'Neal told ESPN.com "Those are teams that are going to compete [for a championship] next year."

O'Neal said he's still deliberating between the three teams -- all believed to be offering a portion of the mid-level exception to sign him -- and called the decision perhaps "the most important of my career because I know this is kind of my last run at it" in terms of title-chasing.

O'Neal averaged 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 28.6 minutes in 70 games last season for the Heat, who are expected to renounce their rights to the former All-Star as part of the cap space-clearing exercise required to create sufficient cap room for the incoming Chris Bosh alongside a re-signed Dwyane Wade and Miami's other free-agent targets.

All three O'Neal suitors are searching for frontcourt depth.

Boston is expected to start the season without the injured Kendrick Perkins; Denver's Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen are likewise recovering from injuries; and Dallas faces a potential void at center amid uncertainty about its ability to re-sign Brendan Haywood and with the Mavericks actively shopping Erick Dampier's non-guaranteed $13 million contract for an impact player.

O'Neal, 31, is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and had his best years in Indiana under Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle before persistent knee trouble derailed him.
Ainge is brilliant. Float a rumor that you might sign Kwame Brown. Then people arent as pissed when you end up signing a broken down JO.

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Stan Van Gundy Rips LeBron, Says Bosh Is Wade's 'Lap Dog'
Stan Van Gundy Rips LeBron, Says Bosh Is Wade's 'Lap Dog'

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy is known for being candid, but he was especially so on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Van Gundy opened up about the special ESPN will air on Thursday night as LeBron James announces where he'll play next season and other free-agent topics.

"It takes 15 seconds to say, 'I've decided to stay in Cleveland,' but we've got another 59 minutes and 45 seconds to, what? Promote LeBron James? As if we don't do that enough," said Van Gundy, who will not watch the special.

Van Gundy added that he wasn't surprised to hear that Chris Bosh will join Dwyane Wade in Miami.

He said Bosh has been following Wade around "for two weeks like a lapdog."

Van Gundy added that while free agency has gotten out of control, guys like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant were still able to get contract extensions with little fanfare.

"It's gotten ridiculous I think. It's really I mean it's almost like a parody of itself this whole situation now," Van Gundy said.

"Look, the guy's a great player and wherever he goes, my bet would be Cleveland, that place will be excited. But an hour long special?"

How pissed will Cleveland fans be when (if?) Lebron leaves. Aside from the Cleveland Indians run a few years ago they haven't had a winning team in any sport besides the Cavs and if Lebron leaves you can expect quite a few years of ineptitude.

I agree with most of what you said about him but I pretty much dislike James, the basketball product and the over-the-top adulation that surrounds him just as much. So in this case, I just laughed at Van Gundy's comments.

I would hope no one watches that self gratification display tomorrow. Calling James an attention whore does no justice to the term. He makes Lindsay Lohan and Spencer Pratt look like Will Bynum and Kwame Brown.

How can you not like Stan? In a sport where everything is completely contrived, he's a refreshment. Kobe can't go through the Burger King drive-thru without pre-determining the media reaction. Lebron can't make a pancake without his team suggesting the filling. Stan Van Gundy is the guy on the bar stool next to you and it's awesome.

It's going to have the highest ratings of anything ESPN has shown since... I don't know. Maybe they've had a great game since they starting airing MNF. Maybe since ever.

So I think a lot of people will be watching. Most of which disagree with how this has panned out, but cannot resist knowing and seeing.

Warriors Ready to Ship Randolph to Knicks for Lee … Waiting on LeBron | Inside the Warriors

Warriors Ready to Ship Randolph to Knicks for Lee … Waiting on LeBron

Would you like the Warriors acquiring David Lee if they could also keep guard Monta Ellis?

That is a distinct possibility depending on LeBron James’ decision tomorrow. Multiple sources told me the Warriors have an offer on the table that sends forward Anthony Randolph and other pieces to New York in a sign-and-trade deal for Lee.

If LeBron announces he is going to New York, in order to make room for his max contract, the Knicks would have to renounce Lee to free up the cap space. That would end the sign-and-trade possibility and the Warriors’ chances at Lee. But if LeBron doesn’t say the Knicks when he announces his decision …

… Then the Warriors are “in the game” for Lee. One source said the Knicks have at least three sign-and-trade offers on the table in case LeBron opts to play elsewhere. But the Warriors like their chances, considering Randolph is a hot commodity. The Knicks really like Randolph and weren’t so high on Ellis. Certainly, the contracts have something to do with it.

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: James Will Announce Decision During First 10 Minutes Of Telecast
James Will Announce Decision During First 10 Minutes Of Telecast

LeBron James will announce which team he will sign with during the initial 10 minutes of Thursday's telecast.

Norby Williamson, the cable network's vice president of production, says sportscaster Jim Gray, will handle the introduction, announcement and questions. Williamson says Gray was hand-picked by James' team, who approached the network last week about the special.

According to multiple sources that spoke with Brian Windhorst of the Plain Dealer, all teams are 'still in the dark' about LeBron's plans.

GSW thing - Seems wrong to me on 2 different levels. If you're David Lee, why do you refuse to stay a Knick but accept going to GSW whom is going nowhere faster than the Knicks. You become an afterthought more than you were be before, don't win any more and lose all of the NYC endorsement opportunities. And Anthony Randolph being a hot trade commodity worth David Lee? He's a lanky 3 who can shoot but isn't dynamic enough to be a top option, and can play some pretty decent defense. Not blowing me away there.

The only thing I like about Stan is when people make fun of him. Example being Dwight Howard is shown mimicking what Stan says or does in any given situation. There are plenty of guys in the league who I would consider a refreshment over Stan Van, and if he's on the bar stool next to me, I'm either pushing him over, or getting up & moving.

I don't think that'll be the end of it. Then we get to hear about why he chose whatever he chooses, plus the breakdown of the team & all that jazz. Tomorrow will just start up another path for the LeBron conversation to move towards.

Salary cap is set at $58 million. Luxury tax is set at $70.3 million. MLE is $5.7 million. So much for the league being broke.

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Report: LeBron To Pick Miami Heat

Report: LeBron To Pick Miami Heat

LeBron James has decided to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, according to multiple sources that spoke with Newsday.

RealGM Note: The news of the 10-11 NBA salary cap being at $58.044M creates additional cap room for James, Wade and Bosh to get closer to a maximum contract.

James is scheduled to announce his final decision live on ESPN at 9:00 PM EST on Thursday.

James met with the Knicks, Nets, Heat, Clippers, Cavaliers and Bulls in that order last week.

The Heat only have Michael Beasley ($4.962M) and Mario Chalmers ($854k) under contract for the 10-11 season.

Wade and Bosh stated their intention to sign with the Heat on Wednesday morning.
