RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Josh Howard Out Indefinitely

Quote:
Josh Howard Out Indefinitely

Josh Howard is out indefinitely to continue his recovery from surgery on his left ankle.

Howard missed all the preseason and the first five games of the regular season after having arthroscopic surgery on his ankle and wrist in May. He returned to the starting lineup on Saturday against Toronto and played in the past three games.

Coach Rick Carlisle said Friday that Howard needs more time to recover.

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Pierce Bruises Knee In Loss To Hawks
Quote:
Pierce Bruises Knee In Loss To Hawks

Celtics forward Paul Pierce bruised his left knee in the team's loss to the Hawks on Friday night.

"It's a little tender," Pierce said. "I'm just going to wait and see how it feels when it cools down. On the play, I was falling and my foot got stepped on.

"I sort of turned it, so it was a light sprain in the knee. I'm just going to ice it right now and see how it feels a little bit later."

Pierce headed to the locker room with 3:15 left in the third quarter, but returned at the start of the fourth.

Source: Paul Could Miss Two Weeks

Hornets point guard Chris Paul could miss two weeks after hurting his ankle on Friday night.

A team source told the Times-Picayune of the possible time frame.

"I know I'm out [Saturday], that's the worst," said Paul. "When it happened, I think that's the thing that frustrated me the most ... I hate to know that I'm going to miss a game."

Lawson penetrates and passes..LOL. Bynum only uses the other 4 players as as decoys.

By the way, Starting backcourt for the Denver Nuggets, Aaron Affalo and Chauncey Billups.

He only started to guard Kobe. 3 starts in 10 games, and thats with Smith missing the first 7.

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Jennings Posts 55 Against Warriors

Quote:
Jennings put up 29 points in the third quarter by shooting 12 of 13 from the field. His only miss came from a three-pointer with five seconds remaining in the period.
Jennings is tremendous but the Warriors are also a huge mess, why they don't fire Nelson is beyond me, he's been trying to lose games for a couple of years now.

Source: Hornets, Kings Discussing Okafor Deal

The Kings and Hornets are discussing a deal that would send Emeka Okafor to Sacramento.

Sources told Sam Amick of the Sacramento Bee of the trade discussions.

The proposed swap would send forward Kenny Thomas to News Orleans. The Hornets would be inclined to agree to the deal because Thomas has an expiring contract worth $8.7 million.

However, the Kings have to be willing to take the five years and $62.5 million remaining on Okafor's deal.

Kobe Aggravates Groin Injury In Loss

Lakers star Kobe Bryant aggravated a recent groin injury in the first quarter against the Rockets on Sunday night.

Bryant originally suffered the injury a week ago against the Hornets.

"I've felt better," he said. "It'll be all right. I've been nursing it, kind of playing through it."

The injury limits Bryant's mobility, but after the game he said, "You know I don't make excuses."

He had just 18 points on 5-for-20 shooting as Houston defeated Los Angeles 101-91.

From rotoworld:
The Bobcats have reportedly completed a deal for disgruntled Warriors swingman Stephen Jackson.
The Warriors will also send Acie Law to the Bobcats, taking back Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic. Jax isn't headed to a championship-contender, but he'll play a huge role for the offensively-challenged Bobcats. This has the potential to dent the numbers of Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace, while crunching D.J. Augustin's already-limited playing time. Nov. 16 - 10:59 am et

That makes two of us.

I'm also shocked that Don Nelson is still hanging onto his job somehow.

I can't see how anybody in the league would want to sign with the Warriors while Nelson is coaching. It doesn't make sense to keep him around if you're trying to build a winning team. He had his day in the sun; he should just step down now. It is getting embarrassing.

Eric Maynor Is Quietly Dominating In Utah | Dime Magazine (www.dimemag.com) : Daily NBA News, NBA Trades, NBA Rumors, Basketball Videos, Sneakers

Quote:
Eric Maynor Is Quietly Dominating In Utah

While struggling to understand why Matt Harpring was analyzing game tape on NBA TV this past weekend, it got me thinking about the Utah Jazz. Being from Denver, I don’t normally enjoy publicly praising Utah for any of their success. Still, credit due when credit earned. While Brandon Jennings and Ty “Mbenga Banga” Lawson are undoubtedly on top of the PG rookie heap right now, Jazz rook Eric Maynor is right behind them.

With Deron Williams away from the team to deal with personal matters and backup point guard Ronnie Price out with injury, Maynor has finally gotten a chance to play. Maynor, the 20th pick out of Virginia Commonwealth, had only played 31 minutes the entire season prior to being thrust into the starting role two games ago with the departure of Williams. In his first starting appearance, Maynor dished out 11 dimes to go along with 13 points in a road win over Philadelphia.

The 6-3 Maynor then came back in his second starting appearance Saturday night at Cleveland, only to pour in 24 points and log a team-high 41 minutes in a four-point loss. Maynor’s surge has surely secured him more playing time when Williams and Price return from their respective absences. Along with fellow starting rookie, Wes Matthews, who is another nice surprise for Salt Lake, the young Jazz have put a spark into Jerry Sloan’s team.

As of Tuesday morning, the 4-6 Jazz have looked flat much of the season thus far—with a few exceptions here and there—and are not the same Utah team we have been accustomed to seeing in recent years. They are really hurting for bodies right now too, with Kyle Korver and C.J. Miles also out with injuries. Outside of Williams and a few nice spurts from Carlos Boozer and Paul Millsap, the Jazz need another solid contributor. Matthews is good and I really like his upside—I compare him to what Anthony Morrow brings to the Warriors—but he’s an undrafted rookie shooter that will only add about 8-10 points a ball game. Ronnie Brewer is still inconsistent and Mehmet Okur continues to remind me of the old timer that banks-in hook shots and finger rolls during pick-up games at the Y.

Maynor has an opportunity to be a driving force behind one of the Western Conference’s best teams over the past few seasons. I don’t think Utah is anywhere near playing how they want to be yet, but if there were one man I would trust in preparing my team for the ups and downs of the regular season, it would be Sloan. Hopefully Maynor can continue to contribute in bunches for the Jazz and pair with Williams when he returns.

When the year is all said in done, I think Maynor will be right alongside the top rookies in the league for production and value to their team. To think, most people were looking past this draft class, citing no star power. This could end up being one of the most solid point guard drafts in recent memory.

Jameer Nelson out 4-6 weeks; White Chocolate now Orlando’s starting PG | Dime Magazine (www.dimemag.com) : Daily NBA News, NBA Trades, NBA Rumors, Basketball Videos, Sneakers
Quote:
Jameer Nelson out 4-6 weeks; White Chocolate now Orlando’s starting PG

Do we need to add Orlando to the list of teams maybe interested in Allen Iverson?

No need to go that far, but with today’s news that Jameer Nelson will miss the next four to six weeks following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, the Magic are suddenly thin at point guard. Jason Williams is expected to fill-in as the starter while Jameer is out.

Going into the season, one reason I liked Orlando to contend for a championship again was their depth and versatility. Having picked up Vince Carter, Brandon Bass, Ryan Anderson and Matt Barnes in the offseason, Stan Van Gundy had guys he could mix and match and roll out several different lineups to favorably match up with any opponent in the League. Throw in returners Rashard Lewis, Marcin Gortat and Mickael Pietrus, and the Magic had all kinds of options at the two, three and four positions to complement mainstays Dwight Howard and Jameer at center and point guard, respectively.

The one spot where the Magic weren’t so deep was at the point. Williams was once a solid starter in the League, winning a ring with the ‘06 Heat after he’d gone past his “White Chocolate” heyday, playing more like Derek Fisher by that point in his career. But WC turns 34 years old tomorrow, and he’s coming off being retired for a whole season. And the only other PG on Orlando’s roster is Anthony Johnson, who is about twice Williams’ age.

RealGM: Basketball Wiretap Archives: Iverson Tells Associates He'll Sign With Knicks

Quote:
Iverson Tells Associates He'll Sign With Knicks

Allen Iverson has told associates he is prepared to come to the New York Knicks.

"We wouldn't be considering it if we thought we were functioning well and we're not," Walsh said of the Knicks, who went into last night's game against the Pacers with a 1-9 record. "And I want to make sure if we do something like this it's the right thing to do."

Walsh said if the Knicks do offer Iverson a contract it will likely be for the $1.4 million veteran's minimum.

Rivers assumes 3-point stance - The Boston Globe
Quote:
Rivers assumes 3-point stance

The Celtics have become 3-point happy at the wrong times this season. Coach Doc Rivers finally stepped in, telling Rasheed Wallace to limit the threes, during the final quarter of last night’s 109-95 win over Golden State.

“I got on him, and I rarely do, about the threes,’’ Rivers said of Wallace. “Because even though he was wide open, it’s really tough. I mean, he was wide open and he took two, but we had just taken two quick ones. But he’s got an incredibly high basketball IQ. He’s been phenomenal in the locker room. So, I’m just happy to have him.’’
hahahaha

Shocking.

Bogut To Miss 2 To 4 Weeks

Milwaukee Bucks General Manager John Hammond announced today that Andrew Bogut (7-0, 260) suffered a lower left leg strain and contusion in Wednesday’s 99-85 win against New Jersey that is expected to sideline the fifth-year center for two-to-four weeks. Bogut scored team-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds in the win and left the game late in the fourth period and did not return to action.

Bogut, 24, was examined by Bucks orthopedic physician Dr. Michael Gordon, M.D., and underwent an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) exam this morning, which revealed the injury.
Tough break for Milwaukee. They started out pretty good. Bogut cant stay healthy it seems.

Allen Iverson will not be the answer for the New York Knicks, a team official said Friday. After two days of debating the pros and cons of adding the four-time NBA scoring champion, the Knicks decided late Thursday night not to offer the newly unrestricted free agent a one-year contract.

"We are definitely not pursuing him anymore," the Knicks source said.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh was expected to speak to the media at the team's facility Friday at noon ET.

Lakers Total Salary Bill Jumps From $86M To Estimated $112.7M

The Lakers have a player payroll of $91.3 million this season and will spend an additional $21.4 million in luxury taxes if their roster remains the same on the final day of the regular season.

Their total salary bill would be $112.7 million if they make no trades or minor free-agent acquisitions. Comparatively, they spent about $86 million last season, including luxury taxes.

That figure does not include Phil Jackson's $12-million salary to coach the team.

"As long as we keep winning, I think he'll keep doing it," center Andrew Bynum said.

Quote:
Arenas: Wizards Have 'Hidden Agendas'

Frustrations are beginning to boil over in Washington.

The Wizards are struggling and coach Flip Saunders expects to make lineup changes before their next game.

"We have guys that are frustrated that they're not playing and I'm sure they are sitting there wanting opportunities," Saunders said. "And guys will get opportunities starting Monday because we're not getting it done as it is right now."

The Wizards will next play at home against the 76ers on Tuesday.

Gilbert Arenas says players on the team have "hidden agendas," pointing out that eight players on the team are free agents following the season.

"I guess when you start losing everyone wants to start pointing fingers everywhere else," Arenas said. "I converted my game to try to get people involved, but at the end of the day, to be honest, this is the same team since three years ago. We added a couple of pieces, but everybody else is basically the same player.

"I'm sitting here thinking 'Do I have to go in attack mode like I was two years ago to get us over this hump?' I hope not. I hope we're strong enough mentally that we can get over this."

Grizzlies Send A.I. Jerseys To Tanzania

The Grizzlies planned to give away 3,000 promotional Allen Iverson jerseys on Dec. 4 against the Mavericks.

Instead, the team will give fans Marc Gasol jersey t-shirts.

Team officials immediately ordered the Gasol shirts as a replacement after Iverson agreement to terminate his contract on Nov. 16.

The Grizzlies plan to ship the unused jerseys to Tanzania, the birthplace of rookie center Hasheem Thabeet.

The NBA's charity program, Basketball Without Borders, will facilitate the shipment.

"We are thrilled to partner with Hasheem Thabeet and the NBA's international program Basketball Without Borders," team president of business operations Greg Campbell said before adding, "This also gives us the opportunity to recognize Marc Gasol for his inspiring start to the season."

Washington Wizards owner Abe Pollin dies at 85 | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Quote:
Washington Wizards owner Abe Pollin dies at 85
Associated Press

Washington -- Abe Pollin, the Washington Wizards owner who brought an NBA championship to the nation's capital and later had the mettle to stand up to Michael Jordan, died Tuesday. He was 85.

His death was announced by his company, Washington Sports & Entertainment. No details were disclosed but Pollin suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare brain disorder that impairs movement and balance. He had heart bypass surgery in 2005 and broke his pelvis two years later.

"With Abe Pollin's passing, the NBA family has lost its most revered member, whose stewardship of the Wizards franchise, together with his wife Irene, has been a study in unparalleled dedication to the city of Washington," NBA commissioner David Stern said. "During his illness he fought with a determination and valor that will remain an inspiration to all."

Pollin was the NBA's longest-tenured owner. With his death, a group led by longtime AOL executive Ted Leonsis is poised to take ownership of a Washington-area sports empire that began when Pollin purchased the Baltimore Bullets in 1964.

Leonsis previously bought two of Pollin's teams -- the NHL's Capitals in 1999 and the WNBA's Mystics in 2005 -- and secured the right of first refusal to buy the rest of Pollin's Washington Sports and Entertainment holdings -- including the Wizards, Verizon Center and Washington-Baltimore TicketMaster -- when Pollin retired or died.

In the changing world of professional sports, Pollin stood out for decades as an owner who tried to run his teams like a family business. He bemoaned the runaway salaries of free agency and said it would have been difficult for him to keep the Wizards if it weren't for the NBA's salary cap.

Pollin considered his greatest accomplishment the Verizon Center. He risked much of his fortune to build the arena in a neglected D.C. neighborhood, and it has spearheaded a revitalization of downtown Washington since its opening in 1997.

"There's no important initiative or any end to difficult situations or any settlement or any legislation that Abe was not leading the way on across all these years," Stern said in March. "He's been an extraordinary league person, always voting the league way, similar to what he did in building Verizon Center. He was going the D.C. way, not necessarily what was in his best economic interest but what was in the best economic interests of Washington, D.C."

A builder by trade, Pollin also constructed the Verizon Center's predecessor, originally known as the Capital Centre, in the Washington suburbs in 1973. He renamed his NBA team in 1997 because of the violent connotation of the word "Bullets," particularly in a city associated with crime.

The Bullets won the 1978 NBA title, and Pollin maintained he would not sell the franchise until it won another championship -- repeating that vow from his wheelchair as he was inducted into the George Washington University Sports Executives Hall of Fame in March.

"I've contracted a very rare disease, but it's not going to keep me from wining a championship," Pollin said. "Until then I'm not going to quit, and I'm going to do whatever I can to win a championship for this town, for me, and for the fans."

While he remained mentally sharp, his brain disease forced him to give up his active lifestyle and rely on a cart to ride the halls of the Verizon Center. He and his wife, Irene, established a $1 million research fund in 2008 at the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in hopes of finding a cure.

Pollin was critical of modern-day player misbehavior and wouldn't hesitate to trade a star who got in trouble off the court. At his insistence, the final labor agreement after the 1998-99 lockout included stricter rules concerning player conduct.

"You may or may not want to be role models, but you are role models," Pollin told his players after the labor talks ended. "If you don't want to be role models, you should get out of this business and go do something else."

Pollin's ultimate coup -- getting Jordan back into the NBA -- was a plan that didn't pan out. Jordan, in a deal brokered by Leonsis, bought a minority stake in the Wizards in 2000 and was given the title of president of basketball operations.

The sport's biggest name spent 3 1/2 seasons in Washington, the last two on the court after deciding to come out of retirement as a player, but his domineering personality overwhelmed the organization and made losing even more miserable. He expected to return to his front-office job and repurchase his ownership share after playing his final game, but Pollin parted ways with No. 23 during a stormy 20-minute meeting in May 2003.

Pollin later explained his decision in an interview with The Associated Press.

"It was an atmosphere on edge," Pollin said. "It was not a healthy atmosphere to produce a happy organization or a winning team. ... I knew that there would be some negative stuff thrown at me, but when I made my decision, I stuck to my decision. I wasn't going to change. I always do what I think is best for the franchise."

The drama of Jordan's exit threatened to overshadow the rest of Pollin's accomplishments, including his philanthropy and his two state-of-the-art arenas.

The Capital Centre, located in Landover, Md., and was the nation's first sports major venue with luxury boxes and a large replay screen. It was topped 24 years later by the Verizon Center, which Pollin built with $200 million of his own money at a time when many owners of professional franchises demanded taxpayer support for new facilities -- and threatened to move their teams if they didn't get it.

Pollin, though, wasn't about to leave Washington.

"I wanted to build a beautiful arena and one that served as a catalyst to turn things around downtown," Pollin said. "I'm proud to say we succeeded in both scores."

The arena, built on a lot that was torched during the 1968 riots, is now a a popular nighttime destination, filled with restaurants, bars and other attractions.

Born Dec. 3, 1923, Pollin and his family moved from Philadelphia to the Washington area when he was 8. He graduated from George Washington University in 1945 and went to work in his family's construction business. He started his own construction company in 1957.

Pollin and two partners bought the Bullets in 1964 for a record $1.1 million, a mere fraction of the salary of today's NBA stars. He bought out his partners four years later and moved the team to the Washington suburbs when the Capital Centre opened. He also acquired an expansion NHL franchise, the Capitals, for his new building.

The Bullets won their championship with Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes and reached the NBA finals the following season as well, but Pollin was unable to keep up with the subsequent free agency explosion that sent salaries skyrocketing. He kept a shoestring front-office operation for much of the 1990s, was sometimes reticent to spend big for players, and developed a reputation for retaining employees who were loyal but not necessarily successful.

Pollin's frustration boiled over when he argued with Jordan at a labor negotiating session during the 1998-99 lockout. When Pollin complained that individual owners such as himself could no longer survive, Jordan suggested that Pollin sell his team. Less than a year later, Pollin and Jordan became partners in a relationship that never blossomed.

Still, Pollin publicly kept his eternal optimism, but it looked more and more out of touch with reality as coaches came and went and as the losses mounted.

"It's been disappointing, but not frustrating," he told the AP in 2003. "Because, obviously, I'm a competitor, and I want to win. If I was in this business just for the money, I would be doing something else."

An upswing began with the hirings of team president Ernie Grunfeld and coach Eddie Jordan in the summer of 2003. A beefed-up scouting department, Grunfeld's shrewd player acquisitions and Jordan's levelheaded coaching made the Wizards contenders again. A 2005 playoff series victory was the franchise's first in 23 years, and the team returned to the postseason for the next three seasons.

Pollin's other major franchise was more successful competitively, if not financially. The Capitals, faced with the daunting task of turning Washington into a hockey town, made the playoffs regularly in the 1980s and 1990s but also lost $20 million the year they made the Stanley Cup finals in 1998. Pollin sold the team to Leonsis the following year.

While Pollin's teams sometimes frustrated fans, he was a widely hailed and frequently honored community leader who devoted considerable time and money to charities. One of his most popular programs is Abe's Table, which has served free meals twice a week at a church one block from where his teams play.

In addition to his wife, Pollin is survived by sons Robert and James and two grandchildren.

Kind of odd. Last year Bill Simmons interviewed David Stern and asked him who his favorite NBA owner was. Stern said he has 3 favorites. Larry Miller, Abe Pollin, and Bill Davidson. Since that interview last year, all 3 have passed away. Yeah they were sick and/or old, but still kind of odd.

Yeah, that is odd and a little sad for the league. I've gained a whole new appreciation of old-timers and their wisdom in this economy.

Kings Exec Bet On Team's Games

The NBA has banned former Kings assistant director of scouting Jack Mai for betting money on league games, Yahoo! Sports has learned.

Mai bet on Sacramento's games in addition to other clubs.

The league informed teams in a memo on Wednesday that an investigation revealed Mai bet on games "limited to small amounts of money among acquaintances and there is no evidence that he ever attempted to use his position with the Kings to influence the outcome of any NBA game."

A league source told Yahoo! Sports that Mai bet on the Kings games for years, "some for, and some against."

Shaquille O'Neal pays for funeral of 5-year-old North Carolina kidnapping victim - ESPN

Shaq pays for N.C. girl's funeral

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Basketball star Shaquille O'Neal paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl after being moved by national news coverage of the case of Shaniya Davis, who police say was kidnapped and killed.

The Cleveland Cavaliers player was touched by the stories he saw and got in touch with the family to see what he could do to help, a spokeswoman for O'Neal said Thursday.

More than 2,000 people attended the girl's funeral Sunday. Her body was found Nov. 16 beside a rural road.

Her mother, Antionette Davis, who had reported the child missing six days earlier, is charged with human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution. Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping in the case.

"I was sitting at home watching it on the news and the story brought a tear to my eye," O'Neal told The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.

Corey Breece, of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, which handled the service, declined to tell the Fayetteville Observer newspaper how much it cost but added that a child's funeral "averages around $4,500."

A man who answered the phone at the funeral home Thursday told the AP that only the owner could comment and that he was away.

Shaniya Davis' father, Bradley Lockhart, and his family had set up a trust fund in memory of Shaniya to help raise money to pay for the funeral. Lockhart was not available to talk Thursday, said a man who answered the phone at his home.

O'Neal is recovering from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for six straight games since getting hurt Nov. 12 against Miami.

76ers Interested In Iverson

The 76ers are thinking hard about signing free-agent guard Allen Iverson, according to a report.

Iverson, according to Stephen A. Smith, decided to retire earlier this week.

"It's being seriously considered," a Philadelphia team official told Smith in an article for FoxSports.com.

Conversely, a team official told ESPN.com on Friday that the 76ers will not consider signing Iverson in the wake of an injury to guard Louis Williams.

Williams will miss eight weeks of action with a broken jaw.

According to Smith, coach Eddie Jordan is among those within the organization that support signing Iverson.

Former NBA star faces mansion foreclosure | LoHud.com | The Journal News

Former NBA star faces mansion foreclosure

HARRISON — Former New York Knicks star Latrell Sprewell may lose his Purchase mansion to foreclosure after failing to make mortgage payments, according to court filings.

Sprewell, 39, purchased the 3.3-acre Purchase Street property in January 2000 for $2.3 million. This year, the town assessed it at $5.4 million.

Sprewell got a 30-year Washington Mutual Bank mortgage for $1,612,000 in 2004 and first failed to make payments in April 2008, according to court documents. Deutsche Trustee Co. Limited is listed as the plaintiff in foreclosure proceeding filings.

An attorney for Deutsche Trustee Co. declined to comment. An attorney for Sprewell could not be reached Wednesday.

According to Propertyshark.com, the home is due to be auctioned off Jan. 7 at the Westchester County Courthouse. The town tax office said the property is up to date on all local taxes.

The Purchase home was the scene of an alleged domestic dispute in 2006 when Sprewell was charged with attacking his longtime girlfriend, Candace Cabbil, in front of their four children. Prosecutors agreed in 2008 to drop the misdemeanor assault and child-endangerment charges if Sprewell stayed out of trouble for a year.

The former NBA player had a controversial career and was once suspended for choking his coach during an argument while he was with the Golden State Warriors.

Sprewell has faced home foreclosure before. In May 2008, Sprewell owed $320,284 on a home in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills. It was almost seized by the Milwaukee Sheriff’s Department before Sprewell paid off the debt, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

In January 2008, Sprewell lost his 70-foot-yacht, “Milwaukee’s Best,” when he defaulted on payments and U.S. Marshals auctioned off the vessel for $856,000. It was said to be worth $1.5 million, according to the newspaper.

Westchester County court records also show financial difficulties in 2007. Sprewell signed a confession of judgment and acknowledged he owed $664,160.65 to an Atlanta law firm, including legal fees from a defamation lawsuit against the New York Post.

Allen Iverson, 76ers plan to meet Monday | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Quote:
Allen Iverson, 76ers plan to meet Monday

Philadelphia -- Allen Iverson is meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers about a possible return to the team.

A person with knowledge of the talks says Iverson and team president Ed Stefanski are meeting Monday in Dallas. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks had not been made public, says they are discussing the possibility of Iverson returning to his former team.

Iverson is among the free-agent candidates the Sixers are considering to replace injured point guard Lou Williams, who's expected to miss eight weeks after jaw surgery.

Iverson announced his retirement last week after an ill-fated stint with the Memphis Grizzlies, which followed last year's troubled stint with the Pistons.

The 10-time All-Star was NBA MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the NBA Finals.
