If someone told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?

Gosh. Tie up traffic for hours and he could have done the same thing with a simple swan drive off his roof onto the driveway. A couple cops show up, the ambulance and possibly a crime scene/forensic tecnician. No one is inconvenienced and you are still dead. Yeah, I know....cold.

He was working on "Killing Lincoln"... that was a great book. I encourage anyone interested in history or LIncoln himself to get it. Don't let the fact that Bill O Reilly is the author temper your view.

If you look at the cover of that book, at first blush, the first thting you process is, "Bill O'Reilly Killing Lincoln".

But tonight, I say we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

Anyhow, I wonder whether Tony Scott got a terminal illness diagnosis? That's not unusual for people of an advanced age.

Why would you 'process' that. Especially given the bold red subtitle.

It's a first glance reaction. The first words that jump out at you are "Bill O'Reilly Killing Lincoln", because they're dozens of point sizes bigger than any other words on the cover. I think that's funny.

It was a joke. You're not really offended, are you?

Especially since poor Dugard gets 2nd billing like that....

Seriously, I learned quite a bit from the book.

Another one I want to get is an alternate history book called The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln, he survives the assassination attempt and is impeached.

    That's a good point.

    Or drugs.

Didn't Don Simpson die of a heart attack because of all the coke he was doing? I think he was part of that gang.

Not sure who Don Simpson is?

Tell you what, though: if I were to get a death sentence diagnosis like ALS, I'd be sorely tempted to go out and buy my first handgun and first bullet.

Don Simpson was Jerry Buckheimer's partner, they did a lot of those movies together, I think Scott was tied up with them.

Speaking of that... remember when Christopher Reeve died, then his wife died a few months later? My theory is they found out she didn't have long to live and he wanted to go first so that she wouldn't have to worry about taking care of him and could come to terms with her own mortality.

If you look at hardcovers it's pretty typical to have author names and titles bolded. You've never noticed that? I've never heard of this author but the title (and image) is amusing....O'Reilly Killing Lincoln=not funny. But....whatever floats your boat my dark friend!

I am no Bill O'Reilly fan by any means, and I did not process the cover of that book in that fashion.

You know, Roger brings up a pretty good point. Why did this guy choose such a public and melodramatic way of ending his life? There's the trauma to the psyche of the witnesses, the expense and inconvenience to the rest of the city, and personal risk to the divers who had to search for his body.

Edit: This subject was already kind of on my mind today after a local activist's body was found in a public park (where kids play, hello?) after he had shot himself.

When the Tigers lose a couple in a row, this crowd gets tough to amuse.

Perhaps the public part was not at issue but rather the mode..... Jumping from a high place into water was deemed the best to him of other alternatives. The news account reports he didn't hesitate or linger on the bridge. He meant business rather than putting on a protracted scene.

You could be thinking of Ted Demme. He was shooting hoops one day, like he did 3 times a week and just fell over and died, dead before he hit the concrete. He did a ton of coke in his day.
