Great lines in songs
I've been playing the Coffeehouse channel on XM in my car this week, just for a change. My husband and I have been giggling over how BAD some of the lyrics in those songs are.
But it made me remember a song my daughter has on a CD that has this great metaphor in one of the lines toward the end, "Vanity is a tiger that you've raised from a cub that will some day scratch your face." (Artist is Jay Buchanan. Couldn't tell you the name of the song, only that line jumped out at me.)
Anybody else have a line, esp. a metaphor, from a song that you thought was particularly good or deep?

I think the greatest line in music has to be "I'm so 2008, you're so two thousand and late."
Fergie and will-i-am. So poetic. Even their names are goofy and dull. This country is finished.Last edited by jonjd; 08-11-2012 at 02:36 PM.

Harry always touched nerves inside me and created emotions few could. You see, she was gonna be an actress
And I was gonna learn to fly
She took off to find the footlights
And I took off for the sky
And here, she's acting happy
Inside her handsome home
And me, I'm flying in my taxi
Taking tips, and getting stoned
I go flying so high, when I'm stoned
Especially thisAnd the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home, Dad
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then
My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"Live your life for what it can be and not for what it was.

One that comes to mind, from Warren Zevon:
"The eternal Thompson gunner
Still wandering through the night
Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley
Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it"This spot, and a place in my heart, is reserved for TC.

A lotta poor man make a five dollar bill,
Keep him happy all the time.
Some other fella's makin nothin' at all
And you can hear him cry,
"Can I go, buddy, can I go down, take your shift at the mine?"
Gotta get down to the Cumberland Mine (Gotta get down to the Cumberland Mine),
That's where I mainly spend my time.
Make good money, five dollars a day.
Make anymore, I might move away.
Lotta poor man got the Cumberland Blues.
He can't win for losin'.
Lotta poor man got to walk the line
Just to pay his union dues.
I don't know now, I just don't know if I'm goin' back again. But tonight, I say we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

From the last six minutes of Six Feet Under:
"Breathe Me"--Sia
Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame
Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me"If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster."--Clint Eastwood

More Than Eva Braun
(D. O'Keefe)
He would have loved you more than Eva Braun
You would have been his kind of girl
You'd have been there right beside him
As he drove around the world
And when he stopped, you'd have pushed him on
And he'd have loved you more than Eva Braun
He would have loved you more than Eva Braun
You would have held the secret to his heart
And when they found you in the bunker
They'd've had to tear you both apart
But if you'd said, "Argentina?" he'd have gone
And he'd have loved you more than Eva Braun
A broken heart is like a Nazi
And a Nazi's like the blues
The fuerher that you have
The fuerher you have to lose
He would have loved you more than Eva Braun
If he'd only known what fun you really are
You'd have shown him how a fresh wound's
More exciting than a scar
(He wouldn't have cared you're not a natural blonde)
And he'd have loved you more than Eva Braun
Oh, he'd have loved you more than Eva Braun
Ja, he'd have loved you more than Eva Braun2013 AAT - Brandon Loy
