We played volleyball at the peak of the heat on Wednesday. The sand was so hot we had to wear socks.
But tonight, we might actually be low on numbers because I don't think people are going to want to go through that experience again. We start at 6 p.m. and there's a small chance it'll be 100 at that time, certainly in the very high 90s with a heat index in the 100s. And, the scary thing is, it's only going to cool off maybe 10 degrees by the time we are done around 9:45 p.m.
And this is a group that doesn't worry about the heat. Like I said, we played Wednesday. We also played Tuesday (6 p.m. until dark) and usually had 20+ there. The previous week's really hot day we had 20+. So we are pretty immune to the heat. We don't let the heat bother us.
BUT....
I get the feeling we won't play tonight. Never been cancelled due to heat before. This may be a first."Only Lions fans can predict a victory when their starting quarterback has a broken arm." -unknown

Hasnt gotten much above 85 degrees up here, but for me, that is pretty dang hot. Luckily by 10 or 11pm it usually cools off to about 60-65 degrees, so it isn't all that bad. But damn, this heat wave needs to move on. Give me 55-60 degrees all day long.

Noticed on the website for my softball league that they cancelled games tonight due to heat. Today's only supposed to be a couple degrees warmer than yesterday, when they didn't cancel games (when my team plays)-- guessing the butthole that runs our league got a fair number of complaints last night.

Sadly I can't give the organizer of my league that much credit, his history of poor leadership is too long. About the only reason he gets as many teams as he does each year is that his complex and leagues are about the only public, non-church league options in his neck of the woods (Comstock Park). I think he stands to lose a ton of teams in the near future when a new softball complex opens up near Rockford.

Nobody cares. Screw Minneapolis. Only good things to ever come out of Minneapolis are Husker Du - and they broke up, and Prince - who moved to L.A.
Your baseball team trades almost every good player it has
Your football stadium collapses
Kevin Garnett could not WAIT to get away from the Timberwolves
Your college basketball arena has stupid, idiotic McDonald's logos all over it.
and your hockey team packed up and left for Texas and the replacement team is BOOOORRRINGGG - they spent $200 million this week and STILL won't make the playoffs.
When Chris Cornell wanted to describe feeling bad he said "Feeling Minnesota"
Plus everyone really does talk like "Fargo" WHICH ISN'T EVEN IN MINNESOTA. If they don;t talk like "Fargo" they talk like Bob Dylan - a modern day poet who you CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND.
SO I DON'T CARE IF IT'S 100 DEGREES IN MINNEAPOLIS !
Your college hockey teams are pretty damn good -- I'll give you that.AAT: VICTOR MARTINEZ

Looks like I'm pretty lucky here. Mostly mid to upper 80s by the coast. It's probably a bit hotter once you move farther west.

All in all, this was a pretty funny post. The exception would be characterizing me as a local Minnesotan, which is offensive. I like the Soundgarden line too. I have had it posted on my Facebook profile since the spring of 2008 when I decided to come out here for school. I am out here studying so that I can move back with a job in one of the few fields that isn't dying in Mi.

not that I'm complaining because I hate the cold but I am glad it's going to get down to the 80's. Been walking my dog 2.5 miles nearly every day until this week as it's just too hot for it. (The fireworks didn't help either). She's getting antsy. My son just left today for his first camp as a boy scout and they're outside for a week.

Right now it's 101, but luckily the Heat Index is only 106 currently. It doesn't feel so oppressive yet.

The high for Boston today was 86, at about 11 this morning. I was out for a while today and it was really nice out there. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. :)

the good news is that this is the last of the heat wave around here. the bad news is that after a 50% chance of showers tonight, there is not even a chance of rain in the 7 day forecast. or in other words, right back to where we were before all the heat...

I was just outside for a half an hour throwing the ball for my dog - the front has absolutely moved through..........totally different feel than just a couple of hours ago. I wish I could walk him, but my leg is messed up.

I was at the Def Leppard/Poison/Lita Ford concert tonight at Pine Knob. Beautiful night. I bought one lemonade that I ended up taking to the car.

Two of those three bands (Def Leppard, Lita Ford) were favorites when I had a full head of hair.
But to be honest, I really didn't like Lita's music. I was just in lust with a hot woman that played guitar."My God, his curveballs are beautiful!"

I was at the Tiger game yesterday. Sat in section 115 - in the shade the entire game - would have never made it if I would have been in the sun.
Left Greektown money ahead.

Our seats are in 321 and it usually gets shady around 5:00 in the summer. We went to the Beer Hall for dinner at game time and by time we finished our seats were in the shade. There's no way we would have lasted if we sat in our seats the entire game.
Friday night was even worse with temps above 90 at 9:30 pm. Luckily there was a breeze blowing in from left."This is Michigan, for god's sake!"
