Luce County Forest Fire - Duck Lake - How You Can Help

Don't know if you had heard yet, but a fire in the Two Heart/Pike Lake/Little Lake area of the U.P. has burned 22,000 acres, 34 homes and cabins, the Rainbow Lodge, also the Pike Lake Resort and the Two Hearted River Chapel. In addition the Tahquamenon Falls State Park has been closed due to heavy smoke and the proximity of the south edge of the fire (only 7 miles from the falls and 13 miles from Newberry). Flames up to 200 feet high have been documented in the very dry jack pine areas.

Those displaced have been sheltered by the Red Cross at the teen activity center (The Link)
in downtown Newberry. Those interested in helping the newly homeless, or providing water,

You will have no problems going to Bay Mills, Newberry, Muskallonge Lake, Seney, or Grand Marais.
Could be smoke at times along M-123 and M-28.

Travel to Paradise and Whitefish Point is OK - but could be very smoky there still. Both of the Tahquamenon Falls still closed.
