RIP Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys
MCA Adam Yauch Dead -- Beastie Boys Rapper Dies at 47 | TMZ.com
In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node (below). He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.
So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.
MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock. The group has won multiple Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
MCA became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.
The Beastie Boys' most recent music video was released last year for the song "Make Some Noise" -- and it stars a laundry list of A-listers, including Rashida Jones, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Amy Poehler, Steve Buscemi, Kirsten Dunst, Zach Galifianakis, Orlando Bloom, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.2014 Adopt-A-Tiger: Robbie Ray

That sucks. Very sad news.

Sad news indeed. I really thought Yauch was doing better when Hot Sauce Pt 2 came out, that they would go back out on tour. Sadly, that is no more.
It's weird, I feel like a part of my history (musically) has died away. I remember the first time I heard Licensed to Ill, my brother and I had to sneak a copy in the house because my mom absolutely did not like them. I listened to them the better part of the '90s, particularly Ill Communication but later more Paul's Boutique. Think about this--few rappers or rap groups truly share rhymes anymore. The Beasties made this an art form IMO, and now that could be passing away.

MCA's License to Ill has been revoked."For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land."
William Earnest Harwell (1918-2010), from the Song of Solomon.

I love it here. True story: They asked me to play the University of Michigan and I said, ‘No, I don’t like that school. Any school that has to have a football stadium that big must have a small penis.' - Conan O'Brien at the Breslin, on the topic of UofM

seems to be hitting a lot of my contemporaries hard. No matter how mature they became as adults, there was always a bit of that b-boy sass that kept their rhymes young. When you look beyond yourself you'll find peace of mind is waiting there. - George Harrison
