I'm smiling because the tiny kitten we rescued yesterday is doing so well. It's very young, but chowing down eagerly on canned IAMS kitten food and lapping water. It's letting us handle it now and I think will be an unusually affectionate cat for a feral kitten. I got a rubbermaid tray about 2" deep and 8x12 to use as a litter box. (Too small to climb into a regular litter box.) He's doing well learning that too. I think that the fact he's so young but not at all timid is working in his favor re socializing, but also probably the trait that got him into the fix we found him in.
And the best news is that a young woman is coming to get him tomorrow who is just so excited to have him. She or he (I never can tell on cats) is going to have a wonderful, loving, and dog free home. And we will have a wonderful, animal loving but cat free home. Win-win!

Big smiles because I just now got word that my daughter aced her barrier jury on her instrument. I've been on pins and needles all day, mostly because she was so nervous.
So happy for her!

Not required for her major since she changed from music ed to music business. She has been taking various percussion classes for her "second instrument." The barrier was for piano. She wants to continue to work with kids but more in a church or informal setting. (Will be teaching a course in African Drum to 4th-6th graders at camp this summer.)
She decided that the business classes would be more useful in finding and establishing a career after graduation. Seems to be a glut of music ed grads these days working at Home Depot so ...Last edited by Melody; 05-10-2012 at 08:15 PM.

Our adult "high school" band just performed for a bunch of kids at the Canton Library. At the end of the concert we handed out kazoos to each child. I'm sure the parents were pleased.

The aniversary of hueytaxi and team mom. 44 years of love, strife, grief and wonder. A lot of understanding, forgiveness, negotiation and often holding your tongue. there are times earplugs get you through a night and sometimes it is an extra blanket at 4 AM. Long term marriage is a lot of work and often harder than your job. But we did it so far which proves others can also. Would I change things, of course I would, but not that first meeting with Robie and the blind date at the local drive in movie. I am blessed.

When, against my better judgement, I watch one of my favorite characters/actors on a talk show, and instead of liking them less I like them more because they are completely chill and hilarious! I'm referring to Deadwood/Damages/Justified badass Timothy Olyphant on Conan. "The problem with the 3rd kid is you still have the other two."

There will be tears yet tonight and tomorrow and still I smile at the wonderful life our son gave us and continues to give us as we follow his team in the Tigers. Without him, I would not be at the games, meeting the players, meeting fans and parents or posting here. While it has been a short ten years, he is with me every time I am at the ball park. some here know the story and how the Tigers celebrated his life.

Daughter coming home tomorrow. She has been in the local hospital all week and I could not bring myself to enter to visit her. This is the same hospital I entered 10 years ago yesterday as our son died. My psyche left me blubbering like a child in the parking lot unable to proceed. Now i can visit her at home and give her the hug we both need. Of course she was also at that hospital 10 years ago and went through what we did over her brother. Had to be horrible for her.

Had a chance to visit with my son daughter in law and 3 month old grandson for the first time since the visit after he was born. Got a big smile from him this morning when I got up. It's been fun watching him analyze things like his hands and faces, watching him babble and giggle at lights and the ceiling fan. I've decided there are angels and only he can see them

Tonight on the news, the return of a KIA sergeant's letters that were recovered by a NVA colonel and were part of an exchange in Hanoi today. While the cause is troubling, it opened dialogue for the search of more MIA/KIA remains. Families need to know even if their expectations are confirmed. I hope more exchange can occur in that land between our countries. While warriors fought, a wonderful people suffered.

Warren is expected to pass an ordinance that bars people from setting off fireworks within 200 feet of residential areas.
The vote happens tomorrow and will take effect immediately.
Since it has been the fourth of July in Warren every night since April, this does indeed bring a smile to my face.

That guy, Warren doesn't like the sounds of Iraq going off outside his windows when he has to go to work the next day.

My niece's birthday was yesterday (the 4th ofJuly).... she turned 28.
Choosing gifts for her gets harder as she gets older, because her style changes - as you would expect it to.
She's always liked "older" stuff, i.e. jewelry from the 60's, etc., but I wasn't sure if that was still in her "like" factor anymore.
I had stopped by a local shop that has crafts, and often old/qntique knick-knacks, jewelry, etc. and thought I'd just take a look. I found the oddest little compact from the late 50's/early 60's. It's metal with a painted bird on it, and some fake pink & blue stones. When you pull out the lipstick holder, the box opens, and there's a mirror, a flip-open place for the sponge that puts on the powder, and a twist dial for a music box that's inside! Weird. and Wonderful. (The music box works)
I got it for her (along with an old poodle pin), thinking she's either going to like it or think I've finally gone insane.
The smile is on because she loved it... as did others who saw it yesterday.
That makes me happy to know I've still "got it" as far as picking out gifts for the girls.Of all the things in life I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

So it was the celebration of my grand-nephew's 3rd birthday yesterday, and time to sing Happy Birthday, blow out the candles, and cut the cake.
Jack had practiced blowing out candles, so he was ready...... but then a neighbor "helped" him, hence the face in picture #2.......
It was pretty funny.

Being 3 is awesome....

Huey, I'm relatively new here, so if you wouldn't mind briefly sharing your son's story, I'd appreciate it...My son was born in November 87 and went through some health problems recently. I can't imagine how difficult it had to be for you and your family. But if it's too difficult, I understand.

Hello,
Difficult always, yet at times it becomes a release of sorts and somehow I tend to recall events my mind has blocked to protect me. I don't need the protection and a lot of our history only returns in small pieces. Our psyche is so strange. Of course I have not allowed professional help except a couple of sessions with my wife in her care. I'm too stubborn and feel I should always be able to handle any onus. I have given you the Reader's Digest version in a PM. I stated it there and will again here...finding Motownsports as an outlet to share his love for the game and now mine has helped maintain my version of sanity. Scott created a wonderful community with the help of a select cadre of mods and converted fans. If you could considerate an object a friend it would be the combined personas of this place (and many of those personas have shared time and stories with me). Enjoy your stay. It is awesome!Live your life for what it can be and not for what it was.

Huey, thanks for sharing your story. I've tried to respond via PM, but having technical difficulties. For lack of a better description, the reply screen is gray, not white and I'll be damned if I can figure it out! I'm usually not this technically impaired.
