People will blame the movie even though it seems like he picked this setting because it would be dark and it would be full - so he took advantage of it. Now we'll have to go through patdowns to see movies too?

I wonder whether they will suspend showings across the country? Maybe in other countries too? I wonder whether there will be entire movie theaters shut down today, at least somewhere in the country.

Pretty freaky thing.
On the radio they said there was a blogger that wrote about how she was in a Toronto mall's food court moments before a guy opened fire.
She blogged about the incident and wondered what kind of a world we live in that this sort of thing happens.
She was one of the dead at the theater last night.

Jessica was a very good friend of mine that I met through my behind the scenes work with the Rampage. She contributed in many ways to building my blog to what it is today. I will forever miss her smile and laugh. She had a great heart and was a genuinely terrific person. She was spontaneous, happy, and would never accept the answer "no".
Prime example:
Last year, the week before the UM/ND game, she texts me and asks if I have any connections to get her tickets. Jessi was a HUGE Michigan football fan. After telling me her budget, I laugh at her and tell her it's not going to happen. She tells me she will just fly to Michigan and hope for the best. In typical Nate fashion, I roll my eyes and tell her she shouldn't waste her time. Lo and behold, the Thursday before the game, she texts me and tells me she got tickets through a connection with her brother's fraternity. We spent the majority of the game texting/tweeting back and forth about the game. She ends the night with a picture of herself in the stands while the team celebrates behind her. I've never been so envious of, but happy for, anyone in my entire life.
Her free spirit will be missed and I feel like a piece of my soul was taken from me.

It is very tragic.
Now onto the movie. I will not spoil it for anyone.
The film is clucky is certain spots. Is it as good at TDK? No. But, it doesn't have to be.
It is a very burtal emotional film. Bale & Cain give A+ performances.
Nolan in my opinon has given a perfect trilogy.John 16:33

Shooter made his way up the stairs and started shooting people with the shotgun.
3:10: News is stalling until the police chief address.

3:15: Comment from [redacted]: I live in Aurora, CO, Thought I'd share. "We were 20 min into the movie when the fire alarms started going off. We thought it was a prank. Then emergency intercom came on say there was a situation and we need to evacuate immediately. Next thing we know there was a police officer was outside the emergency exit with a shotgun yelling at us to run as far away from the theater as possible. We run out. There were people covered with blood every where with what looked like bullet wounds. Kids were crying . It was a terrible scene. Talked to some people, they are saying a man came into one of the theaters threw an explosive device and started shooting." -from a guy that was there.
More info from friends. "I was in the theatre, 9 people are dead shooting started inside the theatre and went to the back of the theatre. 3 people got show few rows infront of me and cops are up there with the SWAT with automatics and everything. It was scary. The first shots that were fired everyone stayed calm because they thought it was stupid kids with bottle caps. 2nd wave was fired the niggas ran out the theatre and thats when hell broke loose. Everyone was vulnerabe even as they left through the emergency exits" -KC Cannady

3:49: More confirmation. 14 dead. 50 injured.

4:04: "No reason to believe there is a second gunman"
4:06: 10 died at the theater, 4 died at the hospital. 50 others had injuries.
4:13: 911 calls and police radio being played. They're talking about the tear gas."Every day is better than the last day." - Pavel Datsyuk

I have had the same pit in my stomach all day, the same feeling I had back in April 2007. Somehow while we're all anonymous to some degree on here it also brings us to where we know complete strangers. I had no idea who this Jessica person was but lots of others did and she was just like people I know and read every day. I have no desire to watch the news or coverage of this or of politics or anything else. I don't care. Having dinner and going to the game.

Denver Post columnist Adrien Dater, well known to Detroit hockey fans for his book on the Avs-Wings rivalry, writes about Jessica.
Jessica Redfield killed in Aurora theater shooting
This is going to have to be quick. I literally am sick to my stomach as I write this, trembling a little at the keyboard and in total shock.
Among the victims of the tragic shooting early this morning at an Aurora theater was a friend of mine – Jessica Redfield. Just yesterday, just freakin’ yesterday, I was swapping Twitter direct messages with her about possible internships she was looking at, asking my advice about them, asking if the Denver Post had one I could maybe help her out with.
Jessica was a blogger and worked as an intern for a local radio station. She came to a lot of Avalanche games, gathering sound from players after games and things like that. She was a regular part of the media crew that were at a lot of games.

lesgoblue...I'm so very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend...she seemed like a fantastic young lady...
I know this is kind of off topic in regards to the tragedy and my apologies if its inappropriate, but am I the only one who is dumbfounded that there were so many babies and small children in a midnight showing of a violent R rated movie? I just don't get it. Is a movie really that friggin important? And if it is, maybe you should rethink having kids. Stay home and rent a damn DVD and think about your kids, not to mention the other movie goers who don't want to hear your brats crying through the whole movie.

I hope that didn't come off as cold - because that was not the intention. I just simply won't re-route my life because of nut jobs like this - because there is very little you can do to stop this kind of thing (he had no criminal history) and I am just not gonna live my life in fear. I plan to go see this movie in IMAX sometime next week (I am not even trying this weekend). That was my plan all along - to not see this the opening weekend, but during the week. I will not change my plan one iota because of this twisted jerk. My heart goes out to the victims and the people who will be forever traumatized from simply going to the movies to see something they were excited about. Colorado has the death penalty. I am sure they'll use it here.

Here's the thing about that - you could almost make an argument that anyone that kills someone else for no real reason has some kind of mental defect.
But this bastard planned out every detail well in advance ..... this wasn't some spur of the moment mental break or even a crime of passion. This was planned and calculated. He's gonna fry for this.AAT: VICTOR MARTINEZ

With a 6-year old daughter myself, this victim story in particular hits home as well.
Think of just how a little while ago the family must have felt such joy at the two milestones I bolded.Veronica Moser will always be six years old.
The "vibrant" little girl, who was bragging four days ago about learning how to swim, was one of the 12 people who died in the Aurora theater shooting Friday, said her great aunt Annie Dalton.
"It's a nightmare right now," said Dalton.
Ashley Moser, Veronica's mother, remains in critical condition at Aurora Medical Center. The 25-year-old was shot in the neck, and doctors are unable to remove the bullet. Moser also suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen. She passes in and out of consciousness, Dalton said, and does not yet know that her daughter has died.
Doctors said that Moser, who was recently accepted to medical school, will hopefully recover with some use of her hands, Dalton said.

You know that just because he planned it doesn't mean he's not mentally ill. Mental illness is not solely about lack of impulse control. In this case, it's probably the inability to correctly process the consequences of the thing the actor wanted to do.
You may be right in that he fries. If he's mentally ill -- and I'll bet he is based on the circumstances of his capture -- then he shouldn't, and if they determine he's mentally ill yet fry him anyway, then I think the state would be behaving wrongly. But tonight, I say we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

Criminal insanity usually means the defendant did not understand what they were doing and/or were incapable of recognizing its wrongness.
From what little I know the defendant would not appear to be criminally insane but rather he deliberately planned and undertook a terrorist attack for which he will be executed.

Saw the movie at 12:01 on Friday morning. I loved the movie! Had a blast... I live in Denver and went to the theater about 2 miles from my house. I got home after dropping off my neighbor, and found out about the shooting. If this theater didn't pop up a few years ago, I would have ended up going to the one where this horrific tragedy happened. I went up and kissed my kids and said a prayer with my family at dinner last night thanking god that it wasn't my theater that this happened. I keep thinking about all of my students that have lost parents at a young age and how hard it is on those kids, even when they are in middle school. It chokes me up to think of taking my relationship with my kids away from them.
I love eating dinner as a family and it really bothers me that a lot of families around here couldn't do that last night, tonight or ever again. I live one mile from Aurora and you can't escape talking about it. It's just horrific and it's all that's on TV. I am trying to figure out what I can do to help out. It's so horrible and between this and the wildfires, CO needs a break. It's like that game when you were a kid and you scream Mercy... i feel like that's what this place needs! Mercy!Jim Leyland talking about Rod Carew: “I was just talking to Rod Carew. He and I broke in together in 1964, in Cocoa Beach and Melbourne, Fla. He went on to get 3,000 hits, and I went on to backup catcher in Double-A. He’s in the Hall of Fame. I’m sitting here having a Marlboro."

I stand corrected...not a big movie person...but clearly not a movie for small children...It just makes it even more upsetting hearing that a 6 year old was one of the victims...I was reading on another board with all these parents trying to justify going to a movie with their kids...well, they couldn't find a sitter, or it's expensive and they "deserve" to have time to themselves or how it's some sort of life lesson to teach their children how to behave...at a midnight movie???...I see the same things when I go to the Tigers or Wings games...small children and infants in the sweltering heat at the ball games...out late and in all the noise at the hockey games...and I can't begin fathom what these parents are thinking...

I saw this on opening night. Good movie. I thought it started off great and ended better than any part of the series, but the middle was just above average IMO. The music is incredible yet again. Perfect way to end the series.
Now we get to wait for Man of Steel (directed by Zach Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan)!
