THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT...

You know...I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood...Especially at night...
For the most part, there is peaceful silence as everyone is sleeping or trying to sleep...
I mean, I could almost hear a pin drop, except my hearing is not as good as it used to be...
So...Last week, in the still hours, late into the night...
Just when I was almost drifting off to a sweet sleep...
I hear these two loud bumps in the night...
And I become alert and I listen closely for more noises...
And after 5 minutes or so of listening...I decide that it was nothing and I drift off to sleep...
But then...Two nights later, just as I was almost asleep...I hear two more bumps in the night...
And this time, they seem either a little louder or maybe just closer to me...
So...I get up and turn on the lights and look around the house...And I see nothing unusual...
And I go back to bed and I listen again for maybe ten minutes...And I hear nothing and I go to sleep again...
And then last night...It was about the same time, just when I was drifting off to sleep...
I hadn't heard any bumps at all...But I looked and there was a bright light coming from under the door to the bedroom...
And I pulled my shotgun up from beside my bed and I aimed at the door...And I waited...And I waited...And I waited...
And the light faded and went away...And after a few minutes, I got up with my gun loaded and ready...
And I went to the door, and swung it open quickly...And I searched the house and there was nothing unusual...
So...Tonight I am going to leave the door open...And I will be watching and waiting...
And you know...I was thinking to myself that all this is just dreams...Because they seem to happen when I was drifting off to sleep...
But...A few minutes ago, I went outside to get something out of my car...
And my neighbor asked if I had seen a bright light last night...

The Origin of Cinco de Mayo...

Most people don't know that back in 1912 Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery at Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise and eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Cinco de Mayo.

Failing Engines...

Fifteen minutes into the flight from Kansas City to Toronto, the captain announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, one of our engines has failed. There is nothing to worry about. Our flight will take an hour longer than scheduled, but we still have three engines left."

Thirty minutes later the captain announced, "One more engine has failed and the flight will take an additional two hours. But don't worry ... we can fly just fine on two engines."

An hour later the captain announced, "One more engine has failed and our arrival will be delayed another three hours. But don't worry ... we still have one engine left."

A young blonde passenger turned to the man in the next seat and remarked, "If we lose one more engine, we'll be up here all day!"
